As a part of Carnegie Hall’s JapanNYC Festival presented by the awesome people at Wordless Music present a night of modern Japanese-inspired fun at Le Poisson Rouge. Deerhoof will headsline, supported by Ichi, a one-man band “combining steel-drum with ping-pong balls, tape-loops with double bass and trumpet with bongos, all in the space of one short set,” as well as If By Yes, a duo of Petra Haden and Yuka Honda, creating avante-pop jams.
Fresh of the tails of their latest Deerhoof vs. Evil, Deerhoof are one of the greatest cases for going to see live music in this day and age. They combine all the classic great elements of seeing a live band – the instrumentation, and even to some extent the song structures – with the crazed spazzery of noise bands. After seeing them at Europa last month, I can’t imagine not going back for more. If you have ever enjoyed seeing live music, you will enjoy seeing Deerhoof.
Below, check out the cool video for Deerhoof’s “The Merry Barracks,” where people’s heads start exploding. Metaphoric!
