Next month, swing by Villian at 307 Kent Ave. in Williamsburg. Vice and the people behind Smorgasburg will be hosting an indoor food market with a full bar and DJs each Friday through December.
The Night Market will be a more experiential affair at Vice’s Williamsburg venue Villain, with Smorgasburg co-founders Eric Demby and Jonathan Butler bringing the food and alternative media organization Vice in charge of music and programming. The full list of 15 food vendors is below, including poke, bao, hot dogs, and Belgian frites.
There will also be a full bar, DJ’s, and art installations in the space at 307 Kent Ave., between South Second and Third streets. This one starts on Friday, November 2 and occurs each Friday through December from 6 p.m. until “late.” Entrance is free with pre-registration.
The weekend and night markets are an interesting evolution for Smorgasburg, which began in 2011 as an outdoor food market in Williamsburg. It grew out of Brooklyn Flea, but these launches put the focus squarely on the food over goods. Smorgasburg now operates the summer markets in Williamsburg and Prospect Park, Brooklyn Flea, Berg’n food hall, and now these winter and night markets. And Vice has increasingly entered the experience space, hosting several events so far at Villain and planning a food hall in New Jersey.
