Here come the holidays! Thanksgiving is just around the corner, and before you know it, Christmas and Hanukkah will bring gifts and good cheer… and a decent level of stress, if we’re going to be honest about it. Don’t get me wrong, I love a good excuse to pig out and nap continuously, but the travel, family time and prep work can be a bit daunting. Maybe that’s why the shows seem to get considerably better during late fall? Some of my most notorious NYC party nights have come the night before Thanksgiving. It’s like everyone has the same urge to go completely bonkers. There’s no avoiding your Trump-loving Grandam this year, so do yourself a favor and start working that aggression out on the dancefloor before you’re in close proximity at the adult table. We’ve got your pre-holiday mind and body workout covered with this week’s Club Crush picks.
.) Heart Beats Presents: Stööki Sound and Huxley Anne @ Knitting Factory (Friday, November 16th) – Jelacee and DJ Lukey are hopping the pond for a night of luscious bass and slow drops. NYC production company Heart Beats is responsible for bringing these emerging trap stars and many other compelling new artists to Knitting Factory’s intimate backroom. In addition to chill beats, you’ll also find local vendors, unique stage designs and projection mapped art. Pump some life into your Friday night plans, and snag tickets HERE.
.) San Holo @ Terminal 5 (Friday, November 16th) – Not so long ago, in a country far, far away, Dutch producer and Bitbird label head San Holo started laying the foundation for his debut LP, ‘album 1’. This Friday, fans will get a chance to experience the new release in a remarkable way. You see, the multi-talented San had originally hoped to be in a band, but as time wore on, he discovered a love for working alone. The self-taught guitar player and producer has wowed EDM fans with massive hits like ‘Lights’ and ‘Lines of the Broken’, and now you’ll get to experience these bangers and a slew of new songs through the powerful lens of live performance – seriously, he’s busting out all the instruments for this emotionally charged roller coaster ride. Get tickets HERE.
.) Brodinski @ Output (Friday, November 16th) – French techno producer Brodinski has the power to bring rap fans over to the neon side. The expert production on tracks like ‘Split’ featuring PeeWee LongWay demonstrate his keen attention to progression and his ability to elevate the work of any vocalist. We haven’t seen him around these parts in a while, so there’s no doubt the new digs will sound absolutely slammin’ on Output’s FunktionOne. Get tickets HERE.
.) Gorgon City Live @ Avant Gardner (Saturday, November 17th) – The UK’s hottest house duo brings the finale of their critically acclaimed Escape Tour to Bushwick this Saturday. Expect to experience the new LP plus club hits like ‘Imagination’, ‘Real’ and many more with a rotating cast of singers and a few more surprises. Hotel Garuda and King Henry provide groovy support. Get tickets HERE.
.) Teksupport Presents: Desert Hearts Takeover @ 99 Scott (Saturday, November 17th) – California’s beloved Desert Hearts crew returns to Brooklyn for another uplifting hang sesh at 99 Scott. The usual suspects – Mikey Lion, Porky, Marbs and Lee Reynolds – are an inspiration to party animals everywhere. The fun they have with one another on stage and off, and the respect they have for their craft is unmatched. They even recently took a “sobercation” together as a gentle reminder to themselves and their fans that good times are fueled by passion, love and great music, not booze and drugs. This mindfulness is exactly why Desert Hearts parties always deliver big on slammin’ house, techno and all the best vibes. The legendary Doc Martin is also in tow this time. Better strap in and get tickets HERE.
