UPDATE 1/13/15
The official Bonnaroo lineup is here, and WHAT A LINEUP INDEED! For headliners you’re looking at the Piano Man Billy Joel, returning acts Mumford and Sons and one of rap and hip-hops finest, Kendrick Lamar. For the first time ever, it’s been said that an EDM act will also be taking a coveted spot at the mainstage, and this year it’s all about the mysterious helmeted dub/chord/bass aficionado Deadmau5!
Other “HOLY SHIT THIS INSANE” acts include Tears for Fears, Earth Wind and Fire, and Robert Plant and the Sesational Shapeshifters. Bonnaroo stays true to its jam and bluegrass roots with acts like Pokey Lafarge, The Punch Brothers, Medeski, Scofield, Martin and Wood, Bela Fela and Abigail Washburn and STS9.
Ben Folds will be heading up this year’s Super Jam, and even this fest fave will have a lot to live up to after Skrillex’s star studded lineup last year which included performances from Lauryn Hill, Robbie Kreiger, A$AP Rocky and several others, which came as a surprise when some thought the superjam would be more EDM-centric than it actually was. Speaking of EDM – that’s lineup is strong too with acts like dubstep king Bassnectar, Odesza and Aussie groove-slinger, Flying Lotus and Flume giving people a reason to stay up late.
Returning acts like My Morning Jacket, Moon Taxi, SBTRKT, 21 Pilots and Rudimental show that there are plenty of reasons to keep going back year after year.
Just take a look at the entire AMAZING lineup above. It’s insane. Tickets go on sale Jan. 17th at noon. You can learn more HERE.
Be sure to check out the full lineup announcement video featuring music from Brooklyn’s own Gramatik, who will also be bringing his unique brand of electronic funk to Roo this summer:
SEE YOU ON THE FREAKIN’ FARM, YALL!
ORIGINAL POST 1/08/2015
Now this one comes as a surprise considering Bonnaroo’s lineup doesn’t usually drop until late February. Today the folks at Superfly announced that the list of artists appearing on the farm this year will be revealed by the fans on Tuesday January 13th from 6 PM – 9 PM through through a phone-in/social media event. This year’s Bonnaroo Lineup Announcement Megathon requires enthusiastic Roo’ers to call in at 1-844-ROO-2015 to acquire the name of an artists and then announce those acts through Instagram, Twitter and Vine using #BONNAROO. My friend sighed and said, “I foresee a lot of Daft Punk!!!!!! #BONNAROO tweets”. Yep, and probably a few Prince ones in there too, if I had to guess.
For the last few years, Bonnaroo has done a fantastic job getting fans involved with announcing the lineup. In 2014, Weird Al’s hosted the first BLAM where fan videos were played throughout announcing the year’s lineup. Last year, announcement parties took place at bars and record stores across the country, with Le Poisson Rouge acting as a center for excitement here in NYC. This year’s lineup goes mostly social, and will be accompanied by a special screening of the Skrillex Superjam Documentary. I was there, and it was EPIC. Bonnaroo isn’t wasting any time getting to it, right after the Coachella and Governor’s Ball lineups too.
In other news, El P of Run the Jewels has confirmed via Twitter that the buddy hip-hop team will be playing Bonnaroo, and use of Gramatik’s track Expect Us in the promo video indicates that the Brooklyn-based DJ will also likely be making an appearance. Other Roo clues have pointed to acts like Belle and Sebastian, Deathcab for Cutie, Flume, Glass Animals and Modest Mouse as other artists potentially appearing at Roo this year. Hell yeah!
Watch the instructional BLAM interview below, and tune in on social media this coming Tuesday January, 13 from 6 PM – 9 PM.
