Brooklyn’s own Big Thief released second album Capacity in June via Saddle Creek, it’s really quite a wonderful and intimate record with a perfect balance of sombre and hopeful moments. Produced by Andrew Sarlo (whos credits include Local Natives, Nick Hakim, Show Me the Body and more), there is a cabin-in-the-woods style quality to the songs but it’s rare for an album recorded that way to have such a strong contrast between light and dark; it has already become one of my favourite releases of 2017.
The band are touring heavily through to the end of the year (full dates), which includes a set at BRIC Celebrate Brooklyn, opening for Conor Oberst and Hop Along on Thursday the 20th of July; tickets are available here. Considering their grueling schedule, it would be advisable to catch them while they’re on home turf!
You can listen to both Shark Smile and Mythological Beauty below the jump.
