If the city happens to be getting you down, this is one of those weekends that remind you why you slog through every day, the options available to you are varied and outstanding. Here’s to keeping on keeping on.
I take every opportunity to wax lyrical about Chilean psych bands when they come to town, but sadly The Holydrug Couple‘s show at Public Arts on Friday was canceled as the band could not make it. Alas, hopefully there will be another opportunity to hear about how their most recent release, Hyper Super Mega is an excellent addition […]
And suddenly we’re hurtling towards mid-October. Whilst Halloween edges nearer, there’s nothing horrific about the quality of options bestowed upon you this weekend – although I won’t blame you if you just want to stay in and watch horror movies instead, ’tis the season!
I was a big fan of Molly Burch‘s 2017 debut album, Please Be Mine, calling it an effortlessly smooth collection of ten tracks. Her follow-up, First Flower, is out this Friday (the 5th) again via Captured Tracks. The record is as impeccable and immaculate as her debut, but there is so much more confidence in the material that really […]
Kiwi quartet The Beths have released the catchiest and most hook-laden record I’ve heard this year with Future Me Hates Me via Carpark Records. Each band member studied jazz at university, though the record is about as unabashedly power-pop as it gets, it has certainly given them all the chops they could possibly need by the sounds of […]
No beating around the bush this week, here are the best shows of the weekend!
Greetings! The weather is looking fine this weekend and if you’re looking for something to do outside of a show (shock horror!), I’d recommend going to the Vendy Awards on Governors Island. The annual event brings together some of the best street vendors the city has to offer and is for a good cause, raising money […]
Greetings, please don’t forget to vote today (and if you still don’t know what’s going on, perhaps this handy guide can help). You can reward yourself afterwards by making plans for a show.
RIP Burt Reynolds. No particular words of wisdom this week (are there ever any?), though you should check out the new Anna Calvi album whilst also going to one or more of these shows this weekend.
Happy labour day weekend, everyone. Summer is officially ending and not a moment too soon given the weather this week… you can still hit a couple of outdoor shows, even head to the beach if you want, but I would personally like to welcome our hopefully less humid autumnal overlords.
