Doom metal is, for want of a better term, very much alive and well in 2015. That’s in no small part to Windhand, who are riding high after releasing their third album, Grief’s Infernal Flower, just last month via Relapse. The record was produced by Jack Endino (whose credits include Nirvana, High On Fire and Soundgarden) and features all the sludgey riffs you could ever want.
The group have just released a video for Two Urns, which, appropriate for the time of year, features some trick or treating gone wrong. For those of you who still get excited by a good guitar solo, Two Urns possibly features my favourite of the year.
The Richmond quintet play at Gramercy Theatre tonight (tickets still available), with Portland, Oregon’s Danava ready for some fretboard workouts and Sweden’s Monolord offering an international flavour. Bring your earplugs, you’re going to need them!
