Williamsburg finally getting that Starbucks that no one wanted in the first place

Very soon, you’ll be able to order your own viente crappuccino at a new Starbucks location close to Barcade on the Lorimer stop. Verb can’t afford the rent in the neighborhood, but Howard Schultz sure can:

The new location of the Seattle-based chain, 405-409 Union Ave., will debut mid-summer, a company spokeswoman said.

It marks the first time Starbucks is opening in the area largely devoid of the chain that’s ubiquitous in Manhattan. Only one other location exists in the North Brooklyn area, in Greenpoint, at 910 Manhattan Ave.

Last year, reports floated online of the new location after a tipster notified Eater of job listings for the company.

The new Starbucks is on the ground floor of a luxury rental condo building at the corner of Union Avenue and Ainslie Street, where a studio recently rented for $2,300 per month, according to StreetEasy.

Thankfully, a great local alternative, The West, is right across the street. Make sure to give them some love!

They may not want it, but it will be packed when it opens. Same as the Dunkin Donuts on Bedford. The place is always crowded.

  2. Manposeur says:

Really? There’s been a Starbucks on Manhathan Avenue and it hasn’t super gentrified Greenpoint. It’s really over when they build a super tall glass tower condo.

  3. Well, how about none of you knuckle-heads cave into these landlords and refuse to buy from GMO starbucks. I mean really people it’s that easy. I’m sure there have been complaints, forwards, and gripping but the real deal is to just not purchase from them. I’m sure a few new yuppies in the area will stop in out of convenience but really if you all support the locals and refuse to spend your $ there soon enough this “cafe” will be forced to close and the landlord will then be w/out rent in that location. It’s easy, don’t go to Starbucks. If you want Starbucks you can grab that anywhere in the city. I don’t however anymore.

  4. Yeah! There are so many starbucks in our city. If you want starbucks go for it. Many in the streets just read there signage.

  5. The West Cafe is just one block away from here. Coffee is amazing, cappuccino is perfect… large garden in the back, snacks, bar in the evening. Support our local businesses.

  6. people who drink coffee are fucking drug addicts. self-righteous drug addicts. junkies have character.

  7. Angelique says:

I think it’s best if you support local small businesses. These franchises are a billion dollar marketing foundation. Small coffee shops have real local owners and truly care for their businesses and neighborhoods. Don’t feed into the hype. Support the community.
