This year, Macy’s will be having fireworks at two separate locations: 1.) a double barge barge just south of the Brooklyn Bridge, and 2.) at a series of barges between East 23rd and 42nd Streets. Unlike last year, where it was hard to see much of anything from North Brooklyn, the Williamsburg and Greenpoint waterfront will be ideal places to see the big show.
WHERE TO SEE THE FIREWORKS
DUMBO & Brooklyn Heights
As always, DUMBO and Brooklyn Heights will have fantastic views and most waterfront locations, including Brooklyn Bridge Park, Pier 1 and the Promenade, are open to the public. You can also head the Brooklyn Bridge Garden Bar if you don’t mind shelling out $125.
Bring your own picnic, and concealed booze, to East River State Park or Grand Ferry Park, both in Williamsburg on Kent Ave. If you’re looking for a rooftop bar, party with the bros at Berry Park, the tourists and the nouveau riche at Gorbals, or head to Output for a party with Dubtribe Sound System/ Garth/ Paul Raffaele. Farm on Kent will also be hosting a July 4th event beside the Domino Sugar Factory.
For free outdoor views, head to Transmitter Park at the end of Greenpoint Ave. We WERE excited about the opening of Brooklyn Barge Barge, but that event has been cancelled. If you’re looking for a great rooftop view in Greenpoint, head over to Northern Territory, but get there early since it’s guaranteed to be mobbed.
Brooklyn Navy Yard
Fourth of July Fireworks at Brooklyn Grange (at Brooklyn Navy Yard) – Once Again, 4th of July fireworks will be set off over the East River, which means we have front row seats! In fact, they’ll be exploding right overhead, and while most of the waterfront will be on lockdown, we’ll be maxing and relaxing on the roof, munching on a classically-American dinner, sipping on ice cold, locally brewed Brooklyn Brewery beer and listening to some good old classic americana tunes.
Coney Island has an action packed Fourth of July starting with the Annual Fourth of July Nathan’s Hot Dog Eating Contest. The Brooklyn Cyclones Minor League baseball team will host the Williamsport Crosscutters at MCU Park and after the game at approximately 9:45pm, the Fourth of July fireworks show will begin. Show launches off the beach near Steeplechase Pier. Viewing locations at Steeplechase Plaza and on the Coney Island Boardwalk. More info here.
