Chris Quartly has gone rogue, so I’m covering for the next couple of weeks. Let’s get weird…
5) L.O.T.I.O.N. at Trans Pecos
They’re not quite noise pop, they’re not quite industrial, and they’re not quite digital hardcore, but if you’re still reading, then L.O.T.I.O.N. have got your Friday night covered. It’s been a few years since Legacy of Terror In Occupied Nations have graced us with any new music, but they put on one of the best shows in the borough, and maybe they’ve got some USB earrings left over.
Friday, 8 PM
4) Jeremy Enigk at (le) Poisson Rouge
If you’re hoping to hear pre-Rising Tide Sunny Day Real Estate sounding stuff, you need not apply, but if you’re a fan of Jeremy Enigk’s grander, progressive (and okay, super Christian) alt-rock then send your CV to the fine folks at LPR tonight. The emo pillar will be playing cuts off of last year’s well-received, crowd-funded solo album Ghosts, and he’s bringing a full band along for the ride.
Thursday, 8:30 p.m.
3) The Coathangers, Big Bite and High Waisted at Music Hall of Williamsburg
If adjectives like “grand,” “progressive” and “super Christian” are turnoffs, maybe stay in Brooklyn tonight and take a nice leisurely stroll (ha) down N. 6th Street for for some filthy art punk from The Coathangers. The Atlanta sometimes-wavers are joined by Big Bite, who play an interesting mix of grunge and shoegaze (and sound nothing like DIIV, I promise you) and local dream-pop devotees High Waisted.
Thursday, 8 p.m.
2) Kool Keith at Rocks of Cruise
Lil’ B. Tyler, The Creator. Three 6 Mafia. None of them would exist if it were not for hip-hop’s original weirdo,
Dr. Dooom Dr. Octagon Black Elvis Exotron Geiger Counter One Plus Megatron Matthew Poppa Large Larry Lopez John Clayborne Cousin of Jimmy Hicks Crazy Lou Spankmaster Dr. Ultra Robbie Analog Keith Korg Mr. Gerbik Keith Turbo Sinister 6000 Mr. Green Fly Ricky: The Wine Taster Rhythm X Clean Man Willie Natural Rev. Tom Willie Biggs Rico from Puerto Rico Kool Keith. And if weather permits, you should not pass up the opportunity to see him on a goddamn boat.
Friday, 7 p.m.
1) Fucked Up, Haram, Twisted Thing at Music Hall of Williamsburg
EVERYONE KNOWS HIDDEN WORLD IS THE BEST FUCKED UP ALBUM AND THEY’RE PLAYING IT IN FULL ON SUNDAY NIGHT.
Also. Haram rips.
Sunday, 8 p.m.
