We are crashing into December this weekend but here are some great options to start closing down 2018.
5) Bob Dylan at Beacon Theatre
We can’t have Bob being #1 two weeks in a row, that would be silly, but he’s still in town this weekend to finish up his run of shows at the Beacon Theatre. I saw him on Friday last week and he ran through a restructured greatest hits set that few could get close to. While it was all a little low-key and nice, you’ve got to see the legends while you can. There’s no opener and he goes on at 8pm sharp. Thursday, Friday and Saturday 8pm
4) Saint Vitus x Dark Art & Craft Art Show: From Beneath the Veil at Saint Vitus
This is an art pop-up show between Vitus and Dark Art & Craft, promoting the work of artists in the metal scene who do not identify as cis-men, who have produced work for the likes of Ken Mode, Chelsea Wolfe, Pig Destroyer, Deafheaven and more. You can find more information on the Facebook event page. Sunday 6pm
3) Snail Mail, Why Bonnie at White Eagle Hall
I wouldn’t send you out to New Jersey without good reason, the ascent of Snail Mail has been remarkable over the course of the latest eighteen months since opening for Waxahatchee at Warsaw. Debut album Lush is deserving of all the praise it has gotten this year and this show is bolstered by Why Bonnie, who have released two lovely dreampop EPs in 2018. Friday 8pm
2) John Grant, Two Medicine at Warsaw
Love is Magic is John Grant‘s fourth solo record, and sounds like a continuation of previous record, Grey Tickles, Black Pressure, falling somewhere in the middle of a goth-pop-80s-electronic venn diagram. As always, don’t forget the excellent pierogies. Friday 8pm
1) Cloud Nothings, The Courtneys at Warsaw
Cleveland’s Cloud Nothings just released their fifth album, Last Building Burning, via Car Park Records, and it may just be their best to date. However, the main draw for this show is opening band The Courtneys, whose album, II, released last year, was one of my favourties of 2017, with Silver Velvet a particularly glorious dose of catchy power-pop. They are the first non-Kiwi band to sign to Flying Nun records but it won’t take long for you to agree that’s where they belong. Saturday 8pm
