The proposal to add 33,800 square feet to McCarren Park has been approved by the city. The plan is to demap part of Union Ave (where the Greenmarket resides on weekends) and convert it into park. From DNAinfo:
The street, Union Avenue between Driggs Avenue and North 12th Street, connects the triangle with McCarren Park’s dog run to the southern section of the space.
The Parks Department is still seeking funding for the permanent reconstruction of the street into parkland, a spokeswoman for the agency said.
But in the meantime they are creating a “temporary design” to turn the street into a plaza as early as next summer
