Top 5 shows of the weekend

Greetings! It’s kinda July 4th weekend, I guess, even if that falls on a Tuesday. Maybe some of you are lucky enough to have Monday off as well. We aren’t just celebrating America in the coming days, either, our neighbours to the North have a fairly significant milestone. Regardless of what you even care about, […]

While we’re usually anticipating what to do at the CMJ Music Marathon around this time of the year, we’ll just have to find something else to do instead. Fear not, however, because a regular weekend is obviously still packed with things to do and this one is no exception, which is especially well-timed given the […]

Panorama 2016 Festival Review

July 27, 2016 By Peter Rittweger

The folks at Goldenvoice, the company most famous for promoting Coachella, were probably looking forward to a reprieve from the three digit temperatures their flagship festival often endures in the Southern California desert when they were organizing their New York City festival, some months ago. The inaugural Coachella East, better known as Panorama starts tomorrow on Randall’s Island. The folks at Goldenvoice have done an admirable job putting together a solid festival lineup, mostly consisting of big tent indie, electro and hip-hop. Here’s the ten acts we’ll most definitely be checking out this weekend.

Dilly ding, dilly dong. We can cut the smalltalk, you really have some great options this weekend and the likes of Chelsea Wolfe, Beverly, Waxahatchee and a Woods/Ultimate Painting double-header didn’t even make the cut. If you aren’t getting out to see a show, I’m not sure I can ever be any help.

Top five shows of the weekend

5) Deafheaven, No Joy, Indian Handcrafts at Music Hall of Williamsburg While you’ll (spoiler alert) find another Deafheaven show ranked higher below, this is the 2013 critical lightening rod’s only headlining show of the weekend and should be treated as such. I have some qualms about the booking–why have Canadian shoegazers No Joy open when […]
