The 2016 edition of MDF kicked off yesterday, which means 50% of the NYC metal scene has packed up and moved south for the weekend. Thankfully there’s still enough radioactive spillover to go around, however, so sit down, shut up (yes, that means me too), and dig in.
I want to start this week by saing thanks to everyone—especially Slaves BC, Blackest, Thera Roya, and Pants Exploder—who came out to This One Goes To Eleven’s showcase at The Acheron on Friday night. Hopefully I’ll doing more of that moving forward, so stay tuned and remember to support your local bands. Now, on to […]
While we’re still dealing with rollercoaster weather patterns, one can’t help but feel that summer is threatening to happen eventually… we’ve had the schedules for Celebrate Brooklyn, Summerstage, 4knots and more. So enjoy today’s sunshine and deal with the rain at the weekend… it can’t last forever! It has been a good week, with La Sera’s […]
The season-long Coachella that was once NYC’s Tecate-soaked, air conditioner-agnostic summer show roster is right around the corner, but before the procession of un-ironic sun hats and color-coordinated side-boob begins its Uber death march north, This One Goes to Eleven has cooked up a little taste of the old days. Friday the 13th at The […]
Apologies for the feature-related interruptions of this section of late, but time and words—as I’ve learned the hard way—are definitely finite resources. Moving forward you can expect about the same deviation as you’ve been getting, but rest assured, when I don’t have something more substantial already cooking, I will be here, churning these things out […]
Since we were tackling other topics last week, I’d like to take this moment to wish Saint Vitus a belated, but very happy, 5th birthday. I was up there on Friday and to hear Pallbearer—a band born and bred a thousand miles away, both geographically and culturally—talk about Vitus as a sort of adopted home, […]
After a Maiden-mandated detour last week, we are back to regularly programming, and just in time too, with one of the biggest and best release slates of the year suddenly upon us like a Half-Life head crab. Join me, if you dare.
More sickening news from the world at large this week. I love metal. My guess is you do too. But as we approach one of the 2016’s first serious AOTY contenders –and one not without its own ethical complications–let’s try to keep all this in perspective. We aren’t saving or taking lives here. We are […]
Few things on this baking trash heap we call earth are more “metal” than a Friday the 13th, and we (OK, me) here at This One Goes To Eleven are embracing that cliche with our first showcase in over a year. Spearheaded by Pittsburgh doom-core heathens, Slaves BC (who released one of the finest debuts […]
I’ve seen Nada Surf twice this week, so it has already been a successful one (You Know Who You Are came out on the 4th of March via Barsuk Records, get it!). The weather this weekend is going to be quite delightful so make sure you get out during the day before slinking off into the night […]
