In a Brooklyn music scene crusted shut with black metal char, Mountain God are something of a throwback—a lead-fisted sludge band lumbering along in the hoof prints of Unearthly Trance and Serpentine Path before them. But while the trio’s new record Bread Solstice (Artificial Head Records) certainly warrants such comparisons, it also cuts a new path […]
The Acheron is Back…as the Best Punk Bar in Brooklyn
We’re all familiar with the ghost stories of NYC venues past. CBGB gets co-opted by John Varvatos — CBGB-ish peddler of Billy Joe Armstrong-approved looks and wares. North 6th is snatched up and scrubbed down by Bowery Presents and Ticketmaster’s hamster-powered server farm. 285 Kent and DBA finally slip into Murdoch’s yawning cultural detritus, with […]
This One Goes To Eleven: Weekly metal roundup
Back at it again after a protracted holiday break. Today marks the beginning of the back half of summer, so let’s enjoy it (and its attendant gore pile of releases, shows, and news) while its still around.
Acheron has just three more shows this weekend
As mentioned before, Bushwick’s beloved club Acheron is closing after Saturday. They have a show tonight and two tomorrow, before saying goodbye: Bushwick music venue The Acheron is closing as a music venue after just three more shows. Get there before it’s too late! All three still on sale: 1 – FRIDAY NIGHT: Aspects of […]
Top 5 shows of the weekend
Greetings! I hope everyone had a fabulous July 4th weekend (some of us left the country). With a short working week, everyone should be in good spirits, so let’s get right to it and start making weekend plans.
This One Goes To Eleven: Weekly metal roundup
With the holiday upon us and big releases just ahead and right behind, this week is a bit slower than most. So get caught up on what you missed in the past few months (there has to be something) or plow blindly forward alongside me. The choice is yours, but I’ll be here all the […]
Top 5 shows of the weekend
Happy 4th of July, everyone, a long weekend is just what the doctor ordered. When all around is madness (I’m looking at the idiotic result of the EU referendum back home in the UK. Absolutely horrifyingly stupid), I’d suggest substituting banging your head against a wall for seeing a show or three.
This One Goes To Eleven: Weekly metal roundup
Apologies once again for the inconsistency of this section over the past few weeks. Life has been almost exclusively throwing sliders in the dirt of late, which—when combined with non-metal endeavors like Northside Festival—have conspired to keep your weekly updates semi-weekly. Here’s hoping we can get back in our d-beat groove…
Shi*t! F*ck! Dammit! Now The Acheron is closing
Last week, we found out we were losing Grand Victory and possibly Secret Project Robot and Palisades. Now Acheron is shutting down its backroom and will no longer be hosting shows. In another week, the only place you’ll be able to see music is the Best Buy Theater in Times Square.
This One Goes To Eleven: Weekly metal roundup
While perhaps reading like summer apathy, it’s in exactly the opposite spirit (read: too much to fucking cover) that we launch headlong into this thing this week. Good night and good luck.
