2016 was the dirt fucking worst. There’s no other way to put it. It seems almost absurd to talk about what a great year it was for music, in light of all of the terrible things that have happened, but music helped us cope a lot over the last twelve months. And serendipitously, a wealth of great records were released this year, as everything else seemed to go for broke. Here are twenty-five of them that allowed us to forget the cruel dystopia that has become our reality, if only for a little while. We needed both their comforts and catharsis, perhaps more than ever before.
Now that the presidential debates are finally over, it seems like the best time to get out an do something that’s actually enjoyable. With amplifiers set between three and eleven this weekend, there should be something for everyone.
Springtime Carnivore‘s second album, Midnight Room, was released earlier this month on Tone Records and is already one of my favourites of 2015. The solo alias of Greta Morgan, Springtime Carnivore will be making stops at Mercury Lounge on Saturday the 22nd of October and a matinee at Baby’s All Right the following day on her joint-headline tour with La Sera, she was kind enough to answer a few of our questions.

This wretched month will finally come to an end by the time the weekend is out, but February does leave us a nice parting gift in the form of some fantastic shows that should get you out of whatever hopefully warm abode you call home.
It doesn’t matter how many times you’ve been to the dance – CMJ Music Marathon is always a wild week of musical excess. This year’s fest (the 34th installment!) which begins next Tuesday, October 21, will be no different, with over 1,300 artists playing sets in 80 of the city’s venues. I know what you’re thinking… where the hell do I begin? I dunno man, but we’re here to give it a shot.
