Spike Hill is closing

Another day, another Williamsburg institution announces that it’s closing:

Bedford Avenue mainstay Spike Hill will close its doors next month, the space confirmed to Gothamist today, as the building housing the bar and venue is currently under contract. “It’s unlikely that this bar will be a bar for much longer,” revealed an employee at the bar this afternoon.

The employee, who asked to remain anonymous, was cagey about offering a final date for the closure, but conceded that “early December” was a workable timeline. He wasn’t sure about future plans for the space, whether it would be kept intact or torn down, but said he didn’t think “the building is worth anywhere near what the real estate is worth.” One thing was definitely clear: “The building’s under contract for a lot of money.”

At least we can ‘celebrate’ its demise next month.

Captured Live: Voli @ Spike Hill

I took a little break last month. Now that I’m back at this thing again it’s time to get all my showcase footage up. Finally the last person on the Spike Hill “It’s A Rap” showcase was Voli. As anticipated he did his thing. Listen carefully to everything. The vocals, the band in the background, etc. This is some deep stuff. I enjoyed it! Let me know what you think!

Captured live: Triple Double @ Spike Hill

We invited Triple Double out to perform at our “It’s a Rap” showcase at Spike Hill last month(11/14/2012). You already know what the deal is. If you don’t you’re about to find out. The lovely young lady serenading us is Ms. Anne and of course Icerocks on the ones and two’s. Enjoy!

My mouth is on time out for the rest of the year. So I can only say this band is Throw Vision and this is them live @ Spike Hill on 11/10/2012. We(blaqbook.com) threw this showcase for John Gray’s Album release party. Enjoy!

Captured live: Fabian Akilles @ Spike Hill

Fabian Akilles is another performer who made his way from Philly to show Brooklyn what he’s all about. Fabian and Dewey Decibel split thier set at Spike Hill during our “It’s A Rap” showcase. For the most part the entire night was hip hop but Fabian came with some Reggae vibes. Me and my boy Kevon particularly enjoyed his stuff because we’re both island(Antiguan) babies. After the set we felt like it was mandatory that we slide out of Spike Hill for a quick Bob Marley session if you feel my drift. Enough talking, lets get into it. Enjoy!

PS: Who ever came up to me asking me questions while I was shooting this, thanks for that(I’m being sarcastic). Next time wait until in between songs. Or better yet, in between sets.
