We’ve had several failed attempts at summer kicking off this year, but the Northside festival always seems to usher in the season semi-officially for us here at Free Williamsburg. With a music lineup that breaks a whopping 400 in number, there is plenty to cram in over the course of 4 days, it’s not too late to buy a badge, and single-ticket shows are available here. While the laws of physics dictate that you can’t be everywhere at the same time, we’re here to help out with the suggestions of who, where and when (not to mention finding time for a beer).
CMJ celebrate their 35th anniversary this year and have just announced their initial lineup for the ‘music marathon’. The festival runs from the 13th until the 17th of October, featuring hundreds of bands and showcases (see our thoughts on last year here).
The full lineup (so far) can be seen on the official site here, and a first run down the lists sees the likes of Destruction Unit, Evans the Death, Ex Hex, Mercury Rev, Panda Bear, Protomartyr, Savak, The Album Leaf and The Men jumping out at me. No need for any competitions for silliest name this year, step forward Ham Sandwich to claim your crown.
Badges can be purchased here.
The last week has served as a reminder for the value of live music. I go to a lot of shows, but when you see something really mindblowing it just changes your mood for the better. I’m still riding on a high from seeing Follakzoid on Saturday and topped that up with the reliably brilliant METZ, who played last night at the Music Hall. METZ are never less than a 9.5/10 live band. As with most addictions, it’s always a case of looking for the next fix, and the outlook isn’t disappointing.
