There are plenty of options for Halloween this weekend, so we’re sticking with the regular format here this week, rather than fill it with bands playing cover sets or other such quirky seasonal stuff. No, if you’ve come this far into the week and still haven’t decided if dressing up as Pizza Rat is the thing to […]
As enjoyable as CMJ is (see our review), being back on a more regular routine is highly comforting. Although as apartment heaters begin creaking back to life, the change of seasons seems to be taking it’s toll on immune systems though, so be careful out there and drink your fair share of hot toddies or scotch […]
It’s the weekend before CMJ, so it would seem like a good time for a live music fan to relax and charge their batteries. However, this is one of the strongest weekends for shows I can think of this year, don’t consider this a top 5, they are all deserving of the number one spot.
Supporting her brand new album “Abyss“, ‘light-sensitive’ chanteuse Chelsea Wolfe squeezed in two Brooklyn stops on her mostly sold out current tour. It seems like a lot of the local news is on a bit of a downer this week, neighbourhood bars are closing while Starbucks gets an alcohol licence, and then of course, there is this; it’s enough to make you question humanity. However, just like the fact that we’re actually living in the most peaceful time in human history is a hard […]
Their latest, La Di Da Di is out September 18 on Warp. Check them out at Saint Vitus next month!
After a disappointing Manhattenhenge, the recent pictures of Pluto (still not a planet) have shown just what staggering things humans can achieve when they put their minds to it. I don’t know about the rest of you, but when faced with the stupendous, staggering scale of the cosmos, I like to rein things in a […]
With the Northside festival in the rear view mirror (review), we return to our somewhat normal schedule for the Top 5 Shows of the Weekend column.
The seventh Northside festival wrapped up on the 14th of June, with over 100,000 people spending time indulging either music, innovation, film, or a combination of the three. Free Williamsburg staff spent time at various shows from metal to pop acts, among thousands or sometimes only a dozen likeminded souls. The best sets and the […]
