The Grand Street BID throws a holiday party on Saturday

Lights are up on Grand Street, and it’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas, thanks to the Grand Street Business Improvement District (BID). And this Saturday, they’re throwing a holiday party and everyone is invited.

If you’re like me, you’ve probably seen the BID’s signs on Grand Street, but never really thought about what it meant. Well, turns out life can be tough in the city, and BIDs help make it a little easier for the neighborhood. The Grand Street BID formed in the 80s to help out small businesses between Union and Bushwick Avenues. Their goal, according to Executive Director Artineh Havan is to “improve the quality of life for the community” by keeping the areas clean, attracting new businesses, doing things like lobbying for new sidewalks, roads, lights and trees, which by the way can take YEARS. If you want to decorate your walls and support the local artists, now seems to be the time. This Thursday, September 4, ARTCRANK, a pop-up show all about bicycle-inspired posters, comes to the Brooklyn Brewery, and The Yard hosts an opening reception for a local photographer.

ARTCRANK travels all over the world showing off posters from local artists all about bikes. This year, the NYC event stops by the Brooklyn Brewery, so it is sure to be a party. Admission is free and signed and numbered copies of all posters are available for $50 each. Just remember- don’t drink and bike. [Read more…]

Tiki Disco season opener is this Sunday

Has anyone checked out any of the “Tiki Disco” events? If you haven’t, you absolutely want to make your way to Bushwick(Morgan L stop) on Sunday for the opening of their 3rd season at Roberta’s. It started out with three friends(Andy Pry, Lloydski, Eli Escobar) just spinning for their pals and neighborhood locals. Now it’s insane! I’m talking lines out the door insane.

If you want to make sure you get in, I would suggest showing up before the 2pm start time. Their parties tend to reach capacity within the first hour. Be prepared for a full 8 hrs of dancing to classic house and disco mashed with some of the tasteful sounds of the present. Party ends around 10pm. Lets all pray and knock on as much wood as possible that the Sun has been kind to dear old mother nature and she has nothing to cry about this weekend.

Hella Bitter Party

Our fancy friends over at Hella Bitter are throwing a launch party this Friday to show off their new fancy cart that maybe you helped build with a donation to their Kickstarter. This would be a good time to go and try the Vanilla Kumquat bitters, if I may so humbly recommend a bitter.

We’re finally ready to roll our the Seltzer Cart and Hella Bitter! We’re having a party in Brooklyn to celebrate, and we insist that you come to it. If you pledged at the $100 level admittance is free. For everyone else, it’s just $10 for all the delicious cocktails you can drink.
