Hail Mary, a 1920s-style diner coming to former Coco 66 space in Greenpoint

Hopefully Hail Mary will stick around longer than the previous tenants. DNA reports that Hail Mary is set to open later this month:

Hail Mary, a brand new, yet decidedly retro eatery inspired by diners and soda fountains of decades past, is slated to open at 68 Greenpoint Ave. by the end of the month, its owners confirmed in a phone conversation Monday. [Read more…]

The Rosemont jazz club is now open in Bushwick

The new jazz club, from the owner of the now-defunct Trash Bar, had a soft opening a few weeks ago. We miss Trash Bar (well kinda) but The Rosemont sounds promising:

Gold Sounds – 44 Wilson Avenue in Bushwick

The Goldsounds Grand Opening Party featuring Mattie Safer (Formerly The Rapture), Alyson Greenfield and more is tomorrow night. Plus, there’s an open bar from 8pm-9pm! Free Tix here. From Bedford & Bowery:

Chip Su and Cenk Eryaman say they want Gold Sounds to be a “classic dive bar” that’s anything but “gimmicky.” The co-owners, as New Island Entertainment Group, have a hand in two more North Brooklyn operations: The Shop, a sprawling newish barbecue spot in Bushwick, and Williamsburg’s Black Bear Bar, where they take care of the venue side of the business. While they aren’t exactly residents of the neighborhood, Chip said they definitely wanted a piece of that Bushwick-boom pie. “I’ve seen the area is up-and-coming– everybody has started going in and I just thought, I think we should go in as well,” Chip explained. “I’m sure in the next five years this area will be completely different, so before it’s too late we decided to snatch it.”… [Read more…]

Cadaques shutters, French-Algerian cafe Bar Omar opens in its place

Grand Street tapas staple Cadaques has quietly shuttered. In its place is a new French-Algerian cafe called Bar Omar, which opened earlier this month:

Bar Omar, a new addition to Williamsburg’s bubbling culinary landscape, is a French-Algerian restaurant that forgoes the stereotypical Moroccan-style lamps and ornamental plates in favor of what co-owner Yasmina Guerda says is a “Brooklyn aesthetic”: natural wood paneling, a well-stocked, speakeasy-type bar, and a window-paneled front looking out onto Grand Street.
