Last Night Vol05: Melvin Van Peebles wid Laxative

Melvin Van Peebles and his band, Laxative, played two sets at Zebulon last night, both were about an hour long. Below is a video montage of two songs (Chippin’ and Quittin’ Time), one from each set. Van Peebles is a man of the people, which he managed to prove last night. Without the slightest sign of affectation, he could be found chatting to Zebulon’s patrons all night. When asked how he feels about being videotaped by a big ass camera, he just replied: “No worries, I have been there myself. Do your thing”.

Laxative is:
Melvin Van Peebles – vocals
Mikel Banks – vocals
Jared Nickerson – bass
Bruce Mack – keyboards
André Lassalle – guitar
“Moist” Paula Henderson – baritone sax
Chris Eddelton – drums
Will Martina – Chello

Last Night Vol04: Sam Mickens’ Ecstatic Showband & Revue

Sam Mickens played the Silent Barn last night. Below is footage of him covering Bowie and a few of his own jams.

Last Night Vol03: Cult of Youth / Nat Baldwin

Cult of Youth played a record release show last night at Secret Project Robot’s Monster Island Basement. Video of that is below, including a live debut of a new and yet untitled song. Before Cult of Youth we checked out Todd P’s event at 285 Kent, featuring the likes of Nat Baldwin and Talk Normal. Unfortunately we had to bail before Liturgy took the stage, so there’s only video of Nat and Talk Normal.

Tamaryn played MoMA PS1

Tamaryn and Mirror Mirror played at MoMA PS1 last weekend. As part of the museum’s “Saturday Sessions” both bands played to a packed house in a gallery space on the 3rd floor. Furthermore, Thunder Horse created unique video projections for this performance, which added tremendously to Tamaryn’s already mesmerizing set. Video edits from both Tamaryn’s and Mirror Mirror’s performances are below.

Last Night: Celebration

Baltimore’s Celebration destroyed at Death By Audio last night. A video from that show is below.

Chain & the Gang / Calvin Johnson brought the house down

Ian Svenonius and gang played to a packed and sweltering house last Friday. I literally have never seen Dead Herring that crowded. The video below doesn’t do the situation justice. From the front to the back it was the human equivalent of a can of sardines. Also on the bill were the fabulous Girls in Trouble and Calvin Johnson. The latter at one point performed a duet with an audience member. Clips of all that and more are below.

Watch clips of Calvin Johnson and Girls in Trouble after the jump.
