Seems a bit at odds that the same week as Martin Luther King day we get one of the most incompetent and divisive human beings in the country as our 45th president. But here we are. For those who don’t have the inclination or energy for politics this weekend, there are many excellent ways in which to avoid the circus.
Pressing on into these fresh new weekends of 2016, North Brooklyn stays strong with a plethora of parties to be had. Kicking off tonight, Good Room in Greenpoint goes full on with balearic beats provided by UK duo Psychemagik and a live techno set from acclaimed pianist Franseco Tristano. Down the street at Output, Detroit/FXHE’s FIT Siegel sets up shop with raw and inviting tracks played alongside locals Ital and Turtle Bugg. On Saturday, Black Flamingo gets it going on the south side with smooth disco jams courtesy of Recloose and Private Panther (and it’s free!). Later, head deeper east into Bushwick where NYC’s Willie Graff drops classic house in the warm and intimate Starvue space. Finally, cap off the entire night at Trans Pecos where Patricia, Mcferrdog, Bookworms, and more play a Words + Dreams 2 year anniversary party.
Have a great weekend!
There’s less than 48 hours left of 2015, and as we count down the clock, you may be rushing to find that final spot to let loose this New Year’s Eve. But don’t fret, I’ve sifted through an extremely tall stack of invites to parties around North brooklyn and decidedly landed on a nice handful of ragers specifically designed to help you forget and forgive into 2016.
Starting off up in Greenpoint, the men of all things tropical, funky, and disco, Tiki Disco reign in the fun at Good Room for an all night affair including an open bar for 5 hours! If you’re over on the south side of the burg, Black Flamingo has you covered with a triple promoter collab featuring Kaviar Disco Club, Discovery and Boston house DJs Will Martin and John Barera. Heading further east you’ll find MeanRed posted up at the Sugar Hill Disco with an incredible cast of Detroit players including Kai Alce, Andres, Rick Wilhite, FLO REAL, and Turtle Bugg. For those invested in secret locations, both Mutual Dreaming and Rinsed have fantastic warehouse parties with stacked bills consistent with their brand of left field techno and house, including talent like Newworldaquarium, Gunnar Haslam as well as Todd Edwards, Jacques Greene, and Morgan Geist. Finally get your night cap on at Glitterball’s NYE2016 at intimate east willyb staple, The Graham where former Limelight resident DJ, The Horrorist drops heaviness into the new year.

BIG things happening this weekend! Neighborhood favorite, Cameo Gallery will be sending off their second-to-last weekend with a booking staple for the club, and one half of Metro Area, Morgan Geist. Joined by Have A Killer Time’s Justin Miller and venue resident Evan Michael, it’s sure to be a night of Disco and House with an italo edge (stick around for Saturday too when DFA’s Pat Mahoney stops in for one last set). Over at Good Room, FIXED celebrates their 11th Anniversary with a rare appearance from Kompakt’s Barnt, who has been winning hearts with his slow paced cosmic dance music. Also, just a skip down the road, Output sets up shop with an Innervisions label night featuring a live set from the afro rhythmic Âme and contributions from Marcus Worgall and Nikola Baytala too.
On Saturday, head into Bushwick where Broke City is back at Lot 45 showcasing the gritty and raw productions of L.I.E.S.’s Bookworms joined by locals Octo Octa and Beta Librae. Then finally finish your precious time off at Verboten for their Subversions night with Matthew Dear and DJ Koze. See you on the dance floor Brooklyn!

Let’s start the night over at Good Room where legendary Funk/Disco producer Maurice Fulton lays it down at the Greenpoint spot supported by NY wax slingers Dope Jams too. Down the street, Cameo celebrates its last Oct 31st with a stacked indie night featuring a DJ Set from Neon Indian, and it’s FREE courtesy of Jukely! Make your way deeper into Bushwick where Rinsed has a full showcase of secrets; secret warehouse and secret guests playing late into the night. Things get discofied in the Black Flamingo basement where DJ’s Tommy Castro and DJ Duckcomb spin classic tunes. And finally, MeanRed plays hosts to big talent from NYC’s Wolf + Lamb with New Jersey Disco afficionado, Mike Simonetti too. Happy Halloween y’all!
OK OK, we’re still holding onto that sweet summer heat for now, and it’s a good thing too as this weekend’s shaping up to be one chock full of daytime rooftop, BBQ events, and some secret warehouse locations made for those early morning sunrises. First, kick things off with a Brooklyn staple a la The Marcy Hotel, the jazzy house vibes of a LIVE No Regular Play set as they bring some crewlove to the neighborhood with Tanner Ross & Slow Hands for their second night in a series at Cameo. Then head over to Greenpoint where electro banger extraordinaire, LOUISAHHH!!! celebrates an EP release with like minded mates Lauren Flax and Young Male. Take things even further and stay up late heading deeper into Bushwick where Rinsed puts on a proper warehouse rave featuring Pearson Sound, Anthony Parasole and more. Come Saturday, it’s all about being in the sunshine as Tiki Disco returns to the OUTPUT Roof toting maximum outdoor elation. Finally, cap it all off with the 2nd Annual Level BBQ featuring L.I.E.S. Records alums Marcos Cabral and Terekke. …and we’re spent!
Hello Summer! This weekend marks the start of the season and it’s evident in the sprinkling of daytime outdoor options. Celebrate today’s end to the work week with a happy hour in the sun on the roof of Output with Have A Killer Time presents John Barera & Will Martin, two of Boston’s finest up-and-coming House producers. At night, head into Good Room for the return of the Dope Jams DJs, an all night clubbing affair with Paul Nickerson and Francis Englehardt. Trapped in the heat and you can’t get out? This weekend’s Northside Festival is due to be a hot one so make sure to stay hydrated! For those looking to keep the party going after the showcases, I’m back laying out the weekend’s finds for nightlife pleasure seeking. Starting with The Bunker tonight, presenting a heavy night of techno, celebrating the release of EPs on their label from both Løt.te and Mark Verbos. Then its off to Bushwick where you can find left field producer Willie Burns (L.I.E.S., WT Records) melding records together from years worth of collecting at Brooklyn’s The Thing record store. Cap it all off at the newly opened Black Flamingo for a classic night of Disco and House from Jacques Renault and Justin Miller. Saturday begins early with a daytime rooftop special at Output with Metro Area and local staples Kaviar Disco Club.
