Tonight: Brooklyn Night Bazaar Continues

There will be shopping, bands, and best of all an outpost by buzz restaurant Pok Pok NY:

Inspired by the night markets across Asia, Brooklyn Night Bazaar will bring together more than 200 of the borough’s most creative independent vendors, musicians, chefs, artists, breweries and wineries. Every Friday and Saturday night, for 5 consecutive weekends starting November 23 through December 22nd, 2012, this combined night market, art fair, food festival and concert series will return to its December 2011 home. The Night Bazaar will be held at 45 N. 5th Street, between Kent and Wythe Avenues, a massive 40,000 square foot warehouse in the heart of Williamsburg.

Last year, Brooklyn Night Bazaar presented music from various artists, including James Murphy (LCD Soundsystem), YACHT, The Hold Steady, Fucked Up, Titus Andronicus and many more. This year, a host of media, music blogs and record labels will take the reigns of music curation, including Fader, Bust Magazine, Hype Machine, The Deli Magazine, Insound, Kanine Records, FatCat Record and Impose. The entire Bazaar will be free to the public. The organizers of Nuit Blanche New York (NBNY) will build upon NBNY’s recent pop-up performance venue The Autumn Bowl to art direct the Bazaar with a series of sound reactive light installations, electroluminescent wire, immersive cinema and an interactive searchlight installation.

Dates/Time: Friday and Saturday Nights, November 23 – December 22, 6 PM to Midnight. Location: 45 N. 5th Street, Williamsburg (btw Kent and Wythe Aves.) near Bedford L subway.

Brooklyn Vintage Crawl Returns This Weekend

This Sunday marks the return of Vintage Crawl, a shop and bar hop through Williamsburg and Greenpoint. This year’s crawl is unique, as they’ll be helping with the Hurricane Sandy relief. From the organizers:

The Brooklyn Vintage Crawl is officially back!  The first shopping experience of its kind to hit the New York scene, is hosting its Fall Crawl on Sunday, November 11th from Noon-8pm. Last year’s inaugural event drew nearly 1,000 shoppers and thousands of dollars in single-day sales–overall, a neighborly great time!

This premier event will feature a self-led bargain hunt through the best vintage shops in Williamsburg and Greenpoint.  Our map featuring all discounts and promotions throughout the neighborhood is available through the mobile platform,  Domino Street, which makes The Vintage Crawl accessible to mobile smartphone users before and during the Crawl at www.vintagecrawl.com.

Hurricane Sandy Relief efforts will be a suggested $1-$5 donation added to each purchase.  All proceeds will be donated to New York Cares, specifically for Hurricane Sandy Relief efforts in the NYC area.

The Most Blogged About Shows This Week

Kanye West

It’s refreshing (and relaxing) to talk about something other than CMJ for a change.  Not that I didn’t thoroughly enjoy myself during the all-out clusterfuck of a festival that is the “Music Marathon,” but the weight of tracking hundreds of shows, attending them, and consuming all the free booze that’s flowing over a few days borders on burdensome at some points.  I know.  Serious, SERIOUS #hipsterproblems.

I digress.  The beauty of New York City is that we’re not waiting all year to see bands.  We’re not Manchester, Tennessee or Indio, California.  Shit, we’re not even Austin, Texas (no offense.)  We ALWAYS have stuff going on.  And that’s why I’m here, no?

Where to Celebrate Halloween In New York 2012

Halloween in New York 2012

The Satanic Future Rave at Club Hell

UPDATED!!

Of course, you all want to go to The Satanic Future Rave at Club Hell on Saturday, but here are some other Halloween choices:

Rubulad frolic at The First Church of Satan: Disco of the Damned
Saturday, October 27

Your fiendish Rubulad producers invite the most craven characters of the underworld – and YOU! – to frolic at The First Church of Satan.

As always, there will be live – or should we say undead? – musical performances by 60’s French pop ensemble Les Sans Culottes, “vocal cartoonist” and “sound acrobat” Zeroboy, gypsy punk darlings Amour Obscur and a selection of Secret Scary Guests from New Orleans. The dance floor will be re-animated by your demonic DJs $mall ¢hange, Shakey and Voodoo Reagonomics.

Further heart-stopping shenanigans include G Scopitronic’s Non-Stop Monster Film Fest and Norm Francoeur’s Dark Circus of Woe, Horrible Art and Hellishly Hot F***ing Tamales, New York City’s most frightening cast of costumed patrons and additional awful surprises too numerous to enumerate. Need we tell you that you should dress damned to hell for having evil fun, you miserable sinners?! Seriously. Bring it. Because this, of all weekends, requires more than just a shocking pair of slacks.

The festivities take place at the First Church of Satan
626 Bushwick Ave.
Take the J, M, Z to the Myrtle Ave. stop and walk one block north to Bushwick Ave. on Jefferson St.

Doors at 9.
Shows begin at 9:30.
Party like a dead rock star till 4am.
10 brains before 10 or way late; otherwise 20 brains.

Unicorn Meat NYC presents Illuminate – Halloween Festival of Light & Music
Saturday, October 27

In a secluded part of Brooklyn, detached from the rest of the world, there lies a hidden street you have never been down. You’ve never even noticed it. If you dare to venture down, you will find the cultural oasis of your dreams. As you walk through the dark, you wonder if you’re headed the right way. You stop to listen. You don’t hear anything. It’s eerily quiet. You walk a little further. You still can’t hear it but for some reason you can feel it. You’re participating in a sacred ritual that many before you have experienced, yet none in a place quite like this .

At the end of the road is a gate protecting an expansive land of sound and color from everyday grime and grit. Inside lies a door leading to a concrete forest of glowing marvels. For a special moment in time, separate yourself from the rest of the world, and walk directly into the light.

Music by: RJD2, FreQ Nasty, Random Rab and many more. 21 and over
