Governor’s Ball After Dark: late night shows announced from Harlem to Brooklyn

Just when you thought Governor’s Ball couldn’t get any better, they go and add a slew of post-festival, Bacardi-sponsored performances that are not to be missed. Ranging in venue from classics (Apollo Theater) to brand new (Verboten) and a handful of old standbys in between (Webster Hall, Irving Plaza), it’s going to be hard to choose. And hey, we know it’s pretty aggressive to go out after a festival, especially one as stacked as Governor’s Ball is. But with lineups that include Deadmau5, Flying Lotus, SBTRKT, and Hot Chip? It’s going to be impossible to resist. It’s not all electronic music either. They’ve got new punks (White Lung) and indie mainstays (Conor Oberst) in the mix too.

Check out our nightly picks and the full lineup below. Tickets go on sale this Friday, April 17th at noon EST (*except for Little DragonJ. Roddy Walston & The Business, and Big Gigantic, which go on sale at 10am EST*). Tickets will be over at Governor’s Ball’s website (and DoNYC), where you can also still purchase 3-day and single day passes.

And the good news from festival land keeps coming. The folks at Founders dropped the lineup for New York’s own Governor’s Ball this morning, hot on the tails of Coachella’s announcement. I fucking love this season.

Top billed acts include The Black Keys (a fine foil to Coachella’s Jack White – plus we had him last year), Drake (also appearing at Coachella) and Icelandic lady legend Bjork. The lineup here includes a hefty helping of EDM as well with Deadmau5, Odesza, Big Gigantic, Flying Lotus, Big Gigantic and Chromeo all making the list.

Chromeo is doing a DJ set in Williamsburg on Saturday

We’re skipping their show at Terminal 5 because, well, it’s Terminal 5 but this party at Verboten sounds like fun:

Zeitgeist takes over Verboten’s control room for a big one this month, as we welcome CHROMEO for a very special DJ set following their big show at Terminal 5. Meanwhile, Bespoke Musik will be holding down the Cabaret Bar with the triumphant return of Andhim, who played an amazing set at their last Bespoke appearance. They are joined by residents Bedouin, hot on the heels of their Wrong Take video release.

There are still tickets available too. [via]

New Chromeo track featuring Toro y Moi: ‘Come Alive’

Chromeo ‘White Women’ album teaser and singles: ‘Over Your Shoulder’ & ‘Sexy Socialite’

There is still no release date for White Women, but we like what we’ve heard so far. They’ll be in New York Nov. 14:

Chromeo will do a one-night installation in New York City in partnership with Tumblr and Snarkitecture this month (details to come). They’ve also announced three shows: November 6 at London’s XOYO, November 8 at Annie Mac’s Warehouse Project in Manchester, and November 14 at New York’s Webster Hall.

Consequence of Sound has a few more details:

Asked to describe the difference between White Women and 2010′s Business Casual using just five words, the duo responded, “Better, Funkier, Poppier, Catchier, Happier.” And they were assisted by quite the supporting cast: Vampire Weekend frontman Ezra Koenig, Solange Knowles, Toro Y Moi, and LCD Soundsystem’s Pat Mahoney will all make appearances on the record.

They also also offered insight into the album title:

We chose the title because it’s the name of the first Helmut Newton book. He’s a huge influence on us…you know, the legs, that 80s sexy look. And we thought the title was ballsy, funny, was going to get people thinking. Our music always blurred boundaries between past and present (is it retro? is it modern? is it both?) and now we want to blur boundaries between gender and race as well. Makes sense?

Fool’s Gold Records Opens Williamsburg Store

Brooklyn retail has a new “gold” standard. Indie record label Fool’s Gold, whose artist roster includes Chromeo, Kid Cudi, and the Cool Kids, is opening up a new storefront in Williamsburg this Friday.

Based on the press release this store definitely sounds like it’s … worth its weight in gold (ok, that was pretty bad, but last one, we promise)!

The label outpost promises to be “equal parts vinyl mecca, gallery space and clothing boutique,” in addition to stocking some “rare finds from the FG archives.”

Celebrate the opening at 536 Metropolitan Avenue (between Union & Lorimer) Friday, June 24 with an in-store reception from 5-7PM hosted by founders DJs A-Track and Nick Catchdubs.
