The Big Brooklyn Holiday Toy Drive

Tis the season for giving! Verboten along with the Greenpoint Chamber of Commerce, East River Ferry and other local organizations are hosting The Big Brooklyn Holiday Toy Drive from November 14 through December 15, capping off with a party at Verboten on December 11.

As if you needed a reason to donate, Verboten is offering free entry all night to those bearing new, unwrapped toys to the show this Friday, November 14 with Eric Volta, Bedouin, and MC&Hammer [live/DJ]. AND to keep your giving spirits high, through December 15, anyone bringing a toy for the drive will get in cheap at the door.

Closing out the drive on Thursday, December 11, Verboten is throwing a party with an open bar, food and raffles. Proceeds from the tickets and raffle sales are going straight to the cause and buying more toys for local kids in need. Find more information at

Eat The Dinner That Your Mother Never Let You Have

On January 16th, Williamsburg’s very own Momofuku Milk Bar will be hosting “Death by Dessert,” a multi-course, sugar-packed “pop-up dinner” that is sure to make the fat kid in all of us scream with joy. All you need is a sweet tooth and $125 to gain access to this cavity-inducing feast served up by a group of celebrated pastry chefs including Michael Laiskonis from Le Bernadin and Momofuku’s own Christina Tosi. The night starts with a reception of “passed savory canapés” and then moves into the kitchen for an intimate dinner consisting of two dessert dishes created by each of the six featured chefs that will incorporate “their personal favorite ingredients, techniques and ideas.”

Sure, $125 is a little steep for one night of stuffing your face with dessert, but the whole shebang is for a good cause. Net proceeds go to Share our Strength, a wonderful group that works to fight child hunger in America (oh, the irony!). And you know what they say- life’s too short not to eat artisanal desserts in mass quantities. Why not indulge a little now before the metabolism drops and the diabetes kicks in?

Dessert lovers and big spenders can reserve their spots here, but note that space is VERY limited.

Viva Con Agua Fundraiser w/live bands

Tomorrow, Saturday 19th, the East River Pirates and East River Bar host a charity auction for Viva con Agua. Viva con Agua de Sankt Pauli is a charitable organisation based in St. Pauli, Hamburg, Germany, campaigning for clean drinking water worldwide. Aside from amazing items like an all inclusive trip (air fare, hotel, VIP match tickets) to a FC St.Pauli soccer game in Hamburg  for 2 people in April 2012, there will be live music and a soccer match viewing.

FC St.Pauli plays arch enemy Hansa Rostock  and the match will be shown  on the big screen at East River Bar. The shindig starts at 7pm sharp. Please come out and support Viva con Agua. Make a difference while getting shitfaced with New York City’s St.Pauli supporters club. A flyer with detailed info is below.
