Basically everything is shutting down in north Greenpoint

As Gothamist reports, Hail Mary is the latest casualty in a mass number of shutdowns in the past six months.

Hail Mary, the cute gourmet “diner” on Greenpoint Avenue, closed over the weekend after less than a year in the neighborhood. This is sad news for mac and cheese lovers, funfetti fanatics, and anyone who enjoys high quality comfort food in a cozy, welcoming environment. If you love a restaurant, go there frequently, or risk saying farewell.

Reached via email, owners Ham and Sohla El-Waylly told us they “tried their best” to keep their Greenpoint dream alive. “We made something we loved and that completely represented us through and through,” they told Gothamist. “Unfortunately, it wasn’t enough. We’re happy we got to try and that this experience has made our relationship stronger.”

Well that was quick. The Kickstarter-owned cafe never really got its footing and will now become an event space:

UberEATS debuts in Greenpoint and Williamsburg today!

And the delivery options just got a lot better! Hopefully, Bushwick will be included soon too.

Unsurprisingly, the entire borough won’t have access to the service just yet; the company has focused on Greenpoint and Williamsburg for its initial run. Those familiar to the area’s delivery options will see familiar faces—BrisketTown, Chinese Club, Delilah’s Steaks, No 7 Sub, Rosamunde—but there are some restaurants partnering exclusively (for now) with Uber. Among them: Cassette, JUS by Julie, MID | NIGHTS, Rider, Sweethaus, Moe’s Doughs Donut Shop and vegan delights Dun-Well Doughnuts.

The shtick at UberEATS is a flat $2.99 per restaurant—similar services that deliver from previously dine-in only spots can vary from $2.99 to $5.99 and beyond—and the company says there’s no need to tip drivers (though maybe you should?). Prices from restaurants appear to be the same through Uber as they would be ordering directly from the restaurant—so long as you don’t keep your driver waiting while you scramble to put on pants to answer the door.

Restaurant roundup: Cozinha Latina, Cassette, and Whiskey Burger now open in Greenpoint

The Brazilian-inspired Cozinha Latina opened this week in the former Red Star space inside the Pencil Factory building. We miss the wings at Red Star already! That said Cozinha Latina looks promising:

Shanna Pacifico earned her nose-to-tail bona fides under Peter Hoffman at Savoy and Back Forty, where she butchered whole animals in the basement. Then, at the short-lived Pacifico’s Fine Foods in Crown Heights, the Brazilian-American chef took inspiration from her own heritage — an approach she’ll reprise at Cozinha Latina, her new partnership with (among others) Josh Cohen, the Brooklyn restaurateur behind Anella. Other Latin American influences pervade the menu, but Brazil makes its presence known with a collard greens salad, pão de queijo, a picanha steak, and the telltale trail of farofa crumbs. (Weekend feijoada parties are planned for the upstairs bar, opening later this year.) To drink, there is the compulsory caipirinha, plus Planter’s Punch on draft and a coconut cocktail served in the shell with two straws. [Read more…]
