Who said summer was supposed to be nice anyway… with thunderstorms forecast for much of the weekend, you might as well spend it inside somewhere watching bands! Let’s not beat around the bush, here are some recommendations…
Enjoy a host of bands, great food, and beer at the two-day Out In The Streets Fest, which will take over the stately grounds of Ridgewood/Bushwick’s Onderdonk House with multiple live stages. Local legends So So Glos are topping the bill, along with Frankie Rose, Potty Mouth, Beverly and more. The artisan-style Ridgewood Market will be at the festival, too, giving you plenty of morning shopping options before the music kicks off each day.

We’ve had several failed attempts at summer kicking off this year, but the Northside festival always seems to usher in the season semi-officially for us here at Free Williamsburg. With a music lineup that breaks a whopping 400 in number, there is plenty to cram in over the course of 4 days, it’s not too late to buy a badge, and single-ticket shows are available here. While the laws of physics dictate that you can’t be everywhere at the same time, we’re here to help out with the suggestions of who, where and when (not to mention finding time for a beer).
If you’re reading this, congratulations on surviving another week. As a reward, there are some excellent shows to be seen this weekend, free of invented “buzz”, just hands-on DIY venues and bands doing what they love.
At the time of writing, it’s supposed to be a pretty gorgeous weekend (Saturday and Sunday, at least), which should hopefully make a good impression as there are a lot of bands from out-of-town in the column this week.
5) Tyvek, Laced, Honey and B-Boys at Silent Barn
Tyvek make the trip from Detroit Support comes from local bands Laced (who I recently saw supporting Moon Duo) and Honey, but make sure you don’t miss openers B-Boys, who I saw at Death By Audio last year and was hugely impressed, and mightily frustrated that I haven’t seen them around since, but I did track down a bandcamp track below. In fact, there’s something about this show that doesn’t quite seem right that it’s not at DBA… Saturday 8pm
