Forecastle 2014

We are in full-blown music festival mode, and while we could focus all day on the megafests like Lollapalooza, I wanted to shed some light on a lesser known. Forecastle Music Festival takes place in Waterfront Park in Louisville every July and has been growing steadily since it’s inception in 2002. This year’s headliners are Outkast, Jack White and Beck. What up, Kentucky? You’re crushin’ it.

Sure, Kentucky’s a bit of a hike, but wouldn’t it be nice to get out of the big city bustle for a few days? And that’s exactly what some NYC artists are doing. Let’s check out some of our local favorites who are heading down to the Bluegrass state from July 18-20.

“This ain’t no Red Lobster shit!” – somebody gave Action Bronson a cooking show

Vice explains:

Welcome to our new food series with Action Bronson, where we’ll travel the world with Action and his motley crew of associates to check out the finest dives and dimes of the restaurant scene. From halal stands to Michelin star restaurants, Action and his rotating cast of dinner companions will dine in a wide range of remarkable spots to give us their honest opinions—both on and off the plate.

In this debut episode, Action is joined by friend and cousin by association, Big Body Bes, a self-proclaimed performer from Brooklyn. The duo pays a visit to NYC’s two-Michelin-star seafood restaurant, Marea, where chef Michael White cooks up an elaborate six-course meal involving a decadent series of seafood dishes; everything from four styles of crudo to fusilli with red wine-braised octopus and bone marrow, hand-made lamb agnolotti, and five types of desserts. At the end of the meal, not a crumb was left in sight.

Captured live: Flatbush Zombies at the Williamsburg Hall of Music

I never heard of the Flatbush Zombies before Converse’s showcase at The Music Hall of Williamsburg lastnight. Obviously I live under some sort of rock or something because the crowd was singing word for word and going crazy. A group of artist this dope and I’m just hearing of them now? I should be ashamed of myself.

These dudes murdered it! When was the last time you went to a hip hop show with mosh pits and crowd surfing? If you don’t know who they are I suggest you find out real quick. A bleach blonde mohawk, Platinum grills, and woman everywhere. The Flatbush Zombies are stirring shit up! Great set!

Lastnight I hit up Converse’s showcase at The Music Hall of Williamsburg. This was probably the best showcase I’ve been to in the last decade. It was a very personal show. Anyone who was in the crowd during the Flatbush Zombies or Action Bronson had to feel alive. Layton(the drummer from Courtesy Tier) and I both agreed this shit was incredible. I’m not going to get into specifics or anything. I’m not going to say anything about how you made it rain on the crowd with some of NYC finest greenery. I’m also not going to talk about the many pairs of $600 dollar shoes you threw onto the stage either.Action Bronson you’re the man for about a zillion reasons! PS: Jacob at Converse, thanks for the hospitality!
