We stopped by Shelter this weekend and it actually looks pretty fun, in a Williamsburg theme park sort of way.
From Urban Daddy:
Williamsburg: not a place for asking questions. It’s a place for sitting at a slab of oak tree beneath a stuffed goat, and digging on some scrumptious meat pastries… At least it is at Shelter, a spacious Williamsburg lair of whiskey and Argentine-Italian edibles, now open. El Almacen and Rosarito Fish Shack. Same folks behind those created this—a kind of hunting lodge of pizza and empanadas. Which… is a strange combination, yes. But after running the following equation—Pizza + Empanadas + Moose Horns + Whiskey = A Damn Good Time—mathematicians have determined the whole thing works just fine.
You’ve got options here. If you’re looking to pour out a little liquor for the late, great summer weather, pull up a fur-pelted bar stool at the bar and do that. If it’s a date night, you’ve got Navajo-blanket-covered sofas for the cozying. But if you’re here to take food consumption to its furthest frontiers, two things: 1) bring a bunch of people, and 2) good. Your strategy should include some combination of soppressata pizza and empanadas bursting forth with chorizo, fontina, smoked mozzarella and gruyère.
