As Greenpoint continues to morph into Williamsburg north, the chef behind Harlem’s Red Rooster has announced a new venture in the neighborhood. The NY Post reports that Marcus Samuelsson plans to open a new restaurant at the Greenpoint, a 40-story condo-monstrosity at the end of India Street. A lease has been signed for a 4,000 square foot space that includes “an alfresco dining terrace overlooking the river:”
No name has been chosen yet. Samuelsson’s new fun house will sit at the base of the project at 21 India St. It’s being developed by Mack Real Estate Group and Palin Enterprises, in conjunction with Urban Development Partners. The restaurant is to include an alfresco dining terrace overlooking the river with a spectacular Manhattan view.
The Greenpoint is a centerpiece of the development boom that’s sweeping the Greenpoint waterfront. It will include a 40-story waterfront tower with condo and rental apartments, a five-story rental building, a residents’ courtyard, and 30,000 square feet of amenities. Condo units are to go on sale this week.
Of course, there’s still no update on how the neighborhood, which is largely under-served by public transportation, will handle its growing population and its influx of international tourists with fedoras and man-buns. That said, we’re confident that Samuelsson’s new venture will be fantastic.
