Oscar award-winning actor Philip Seymour Hoffman was found dead of an apparent drug overdose in his West Village apartment today. The body was discovered by a screenwriter in his bathtub with a needle in his arm. Last year, the actor completed a 10-day stint in rehab for heroin abuse.

Hoffman studied drama at New York University’s Tisch School of the Arts and is remembered for his performances in such films as Capote, Boogie Nights, Twister, Moneyball and The Big Lebowski. He was 46 and is survived by his long time girlfriend and three children.
