The yearly tradition of awfulness known as SantaCon is going to be kicking off at 10AM at the McCarren Park football field this Saturday. Were you planning on strolling through the lovely McCarren Park Greenmarket with your coffee this weekend? Think again! From DNA info:
The NYC Department of Parks and Recreation expects 800 to 1,000 SantaCon participants to gather at 10 a.m. for a photo opportunity before they begin the day’s recreational drinking, an agency spokesperson told DNAinfo New York.
“Parks has worked with NYPD and the community to ensure the gathering in McCarren to launch this year’s SantaCon is safe, orderly and respectful of the local community,” the spokesperson said in a statement. “SantaCon has complied with all of Parks and NYPD requests and we expect a well-organized event.”
It’s hard not to laugh at any sentence that includes both the words ‘orderly’ and ‘SantaCon.’ The only silver lining is that hopefully this means that the SantaCon route (which will be published on Wednesday night) will end up far away from Williamsburg when the holiday attired mass of revelers reaches full drunk zombie mode (fingers crossed for Staten Island).
