This is the most excited I’ve gotten about a collaboration since I got an e-mail that said “featuring members of Blood Brothers, The Locust and Yeah Yeah Yeahs.”
World-beating noise-punks METZ and the godfather of post-hardcore John Reis (frontman of Drive Like Jehu, Hot Snakes and Rocket From The Crypt) dropped a track yesterday called “Caught Up” that sounds like a bunch of pissed off birds flying around a hibachi chain restaurant. Their words, not mine:
When METZ found themselves on tour in San Diego with a couple hours to spare, Swami John Reis (Drive Like Jehu, Rocket From the Crypt, Night Marchers, Hot Snakes) immediately booked some studio time with the hopes of capturing the glorious noise of this collaboration. The four of them came up with two songs and now they are friends for life. The sound is reminiscent of an army of seagulls inside a burning Benihana of Tokyo.
Listen and judge for yourself below.
The single will be released in physical format on Record Store Day via Reis’ Swami Records. METZ will also have an RSD split with Mission of Burma.
So uhhh, I hear Drive Like Jehu need an opener for those two shows in August…
