This space plays by all the Williamsburg watering hole rules—old, vintagey accents, industrial-themed lighting, and housemade cocktail accoutrements in Weck jars—but its slightly-off-the-beaten-path location makes it a nice break from the usual. The V-shaped bar echoes the shape of the space and allows for prime people-watching. Moderately-priced cocktails are hit-or-miss, but when they’re good, they’re really good, using ingredients like dried rose petals, ginger liqueur, and almond syrup.

The latest addition to Williamsburg’s seemingly neverending roster of new bars arrives this week with the opening of richlane, a handsome new spot on an overlooked stretch of Union Street near McCarren Park. Don’t expect many gimmicks to lure customers off the flashy Bedford Avenue drag, but do come prepared for handcrafted cocktails, local beers, and wine on tap (!) at this well-appointed if low-key neighborhood bar.

The space, named in honor of an Italian social club that once occupied the building, is owned by Michael Passalacqua, co-owner of Chelsea tapas favorite Tia Pol and Esther Montoro. All of the beers and wines are from New York state, with brews like Keegan Ale Hurricane Kitty and Captain Lawrence Liquid Gold on offer, plus the aforementioned wine on tap (one red, one white, they rotate seasonally). Liquor-wise, the menu is focused on smaller brands, which show up in cocktails ($10) like the Rich River (unfiltered Riverhouse rye, maple syrup, lemon juice and egg whites) and a hot Snap-liquor based punch with milk, honey, pear and cinnamon.
