The new collective From Brooklyn With Love — which includes about 60 businesses in Williamsburg, Greenpoint and Bushwick — is hosting constant donation deliveries, fundraising parties and volunteer events to aid Rockaway Beach, DUMBO, and other spots hit hard by the hurricane. The participants include well-known bars and restaurants — like Brooklyn Brewery, Roberta’s Pizza, Brooklyn Bowl, the Brooklyn Kitchen and Teddy’s Bar and Grill — plus retail shops like Artists & Fleas and Pilgrim Surf Shop, the site notes.
And Brooklyn Brewery’s owner Stephen Hindy — who said his distributor in Red Hook had some minor wind damage but that in general “everything has gotten sidetracked” since Sandy for all local businesses — noted that the organizing effort has already reaped results.
“We did a release party for the beer ‘There Will be Black’ and asked people to contribute, and we raised about $2,500,” he said. “And the relief agency World Cares has been using our warehouse to put together blankets and other supplies.”
