Everyone is naming their kids Brooklyn except for people who live in New York

Brooklyn as a girls name has climbed the popularity charts all the way to 28th for the year 2013. A whopping 6,600 girls were given the name Brooklyn in the United States last year and it has now been in the top 30 for three years in a row. One place where this name is not so popular happens to be our very own New York because we realize how lame that would be. From ABC News:

Of the 41 states where Brooklyn is now the most popular girl’s name beginning with B, New York is not among them. Real Brooklynites say naming your child Brooklyn is strictly for out-of towners.

“It’s almost like a magical place far away that doesn’t exist to them,” says parent Heath Farnsworth-Williams. “For us, Brooklyn is home, and we’d have a hard time trying to make the identity of our home coexist with the identity of our child.”

‘Staten Island’ as a girls name unfortunately did not crack the top 100 this year.
