FREEwilliamsburg is giving you a chance to win tickets to the friend hang of the century, but first, a throwback story from Lonely C of Soul Clap:
“I can remember the first time I ever stumbled into the Marcy Hotel. It was the weekend of the infamous MiniTek Festival at Coney Island in NYC which seemed to both succeed and yet epically fail when so many folks didn’t get paid. Regardless, it did bring to NYC so many of the bigger names in the scene at the time. When the festival did fall apart, they all seemed to end up at the Marcy. Imagine everyone who showed up in Coney Island still limping around Brooklyn looking to continue the party. We were doing the same thing, so when we got the address on Marcy Ave. we made our way over and promptly went in the wrong door and up some stairs. Later we’d learn this was Zev’s (of Wolf+Lamb) apartment (or was it S.M. and Etty’s then?) but that night it was another open door to an apartment where a half-smoked joint lay on the kitchen counter. We stole that, lit it up and went back down the stairs to the real entrance, and once we got inside it was like we were on another planet. The place was crawling both in the main hang out room, the 50 person dance floor and then up a couple steps and through a window was this sprawling lot that was just filled. Tons of folks were there, from Richie Hawtin to Martin Buttrich, Konrad Black and then of course Lee, Seth, Shawn, Ryan, Benj and on and on. I’m sure I’m missing a bunch of others and so many people from the NYC scene. Anyway, it was nuts! I remember Zev hitting on my then ex-girlfriend who I rolled to the party with, but that seemed to be enough of a reason to strike up conversation. It was that night we slipped Gadi and Zev our Love Light and Conscious edits that became the first Wolf + Lamb Black and we’ve never turned back!”
