Well here it is folks! Festival season is officially upon us with the announcement of Coachella’s 2015 lineup. It’s an eclectic mix heading to California’s Indio Valley this year with Jack White, Drake and AC/DC headlining the bill. While Jack White may come as a bit of a disappointment to those of us who saw him at basically every other festival last year, there’s not denying he puts on a great show and Lazaretto was undoubtedly one of the top albums of 2014. Drake comes hot off of his “Drake Vs. Lil Wayne” interactive tour which relied heavily on audience interaction through the use of integrated iPhone technology, and AC/DC, well if you keep up with Rolling Stone or any of the other major outlets, you’d know that Angus Young and the rest of the “schoolboys” were hitting the road again, making them an obvious pick for the “classic rock” slot.
This year’s lineup doesn’t skew too heavily in any one direction, but there is a healthy list of rap and hip-hop acts despite last year’s Outkast fiasco (perhaps they are looking for a comeback) acts like Raekwon and Ghostface Killah, Run the Jewels and Tyler the Creator hitting hard on the undercard.
EDM still reigns supreme for the California festival who will be graced by appearances from David Guetta, Axwell ^ Ingrosso (who debuted their live set at last year’s Governor’s Ball), Kaskade, Gramatik, Flying Lotus Nero, Porter Robinson’s live Worlds set, and many more. There’s still plenty of rock and indie centric acts to go around with Belle and Sebastian, Hearts, St. Lucia, Tame Impala, Hozier and War on Drugs making sitting pretty underneath those headlining names. Also – Steely Dan. Now that’s pretty sick.
It shouldn’t come as a surprise that Coachella’s lineup is basically a “Who’s Who?” of all of the major publications “Best of 2014” lists. The three-day festival which takes place annually over the second and third weekends of April is always a good indicator of what to expect from other major festivals. So strap in folks, we’re only just getting started.
Who are you most excited to see at this year’s Coachella Festival? You can learn more about the festival by visiting their official website, but you’ve gotta be strategic when buying your ticket. In true Coachella fashion, both weekends will sell out fast so make sure to get online Thursday January 7th at 12 PM PST/3 PM EST. HOWEVER, if you miss your chance, there’s bound to be some angry LA-natives who “think the headliners suck” or that the “lineup is for old people”, so start checking Craiglist, stocking your wardrobe with fashion-forward ensembles and making those travel plans.
