I think it’s safe to say the last couple of weeks have been… charged. There’s a lot of reason for us to be frustrated. For one, the senate basically just said f*ck you to sexual assault survivors by giving a self-proclaimed spokesperson for beer in a lifetime appointment on the Supreme Court. But honestly, I guess that hardly matters because scientists are fretting about the super volcano again, and when that thing blows we’re toast anyway. In times like this, what more can we do than dance those troubles away? There’s no need to be negative when these chaos is beyond our control. Laugh with your friends. Live every day to the fullest. And listen to some damn fine music while you’re at it. On a positive note, there’s plenty to keep us distracted in this week’s Club Crush.
.) CloZee @ Bowery Ballroom (Thursday, October 11th) – World bass – it’s the genre we didn’t know we needed. CloZee of Toulouse combines classical strings, chanting voices and groovy bass lines to create what might be our favorite take on glitch hop yet. Approved by headbangers and yogis alike, CloZee’s crunchy beats are just what the medicine doctor ordered. She’ll be stopping off at Bowery Ballroom in support of her new album, Evasion, which in French means “escaping from reality”… It’s like she’s reading our minds! Get tickets HERE.
.) Opiou @ Brooklyn Bowl (Friday, October 12th) – A little funky, a little bass-y and the right amount of weird, Kiwi producer and live performer Opiou, has been called “an ever evolving feast for the ears”. He’s performed alongside big names like Bassnectar and MC Hammer, so as you can see, it doesn’t get more diverse than that. Hot off the release of his unbelievable new Live from Red Rocks album (featuring the 21-piece Syzygy Orchestra), he’ll be gracing the lanes at Brooklyn Bowl with something super special come Friday. Get tickets HERE.
.) Justin Martin & Latmun @ Output (Friday, October 12th) – A Dirtybird and a house cat walk into a club… The only way this can end is with us all gettin’ the eff down. Two of house music’s hottest names are back to show us how San Francisco and Nottingham get down. Justin and Latmun might be from different continents, but damn if they can’t set it off all the same. Get tickets HERE.
.) Nora En Pure @ Avant Gardner (Saturday, October 13th) Swiss/South African producer Nora En Pure is here to breathe some fresh air into your weekend. Her Polynesian Tour stops off at Avant Gardner this Saturday. In this installment of Nora En Pure Presents Purified she’ll be bringing along some other big names in deep and progressive house including Kidnap, MoonWalk and Local Dialect. We’re running a contest, so be sure to enter HERE.
.) Paul Oakenfold @ Schimanski NYC (Saturday, October 13th) – Trance, acid house and breakbeat legend Paul Oakenfold returns to Brooklyn with a genre-bending performance at Schimanski NYC. It’s not easy to stay relevant in this business, but from the looks of it the Planet Perfecto Radio host shows no signs of slowing. Give your ears and your dancing feet a treat with a visit to the visually immersive nightclub on North 11th. RSVP for free entry before 11:30 or get tickets HERE.
