You’re probably hungover, so I’m not going to bore you with the normal drivel. What I will say is, I hope you had a wonderful day off from work. Even if you’re feeling less than patriotic these days, you can still enjoy a little R&R away from the office. For those of you who didn’t binge on enough beer and salty snacks yesterday, well, there are plenty of ways to make up for that this weekend. Whether you’re looking for a shot of nostalgia or an excuse to see movie stars hit the decks, I’m here to scratch that itch with this week’s club crush picks.
.) Idris Elba @ Output (Friday, July 6th) – From The Wire to the woofers, acclaimed actor Idris Elba will bring the beats to Output this Friday when he headlines the main room with support from Kenny Dope and Alix Alvarez. Little known fact: the man behind the character Stringer Bell was actually flexing his DJ muscles long before he found on-screen fame. With a number of festival appearances under his belt (including Glastonbury 2015 and MMW 2018) expect something great from this multi-talented Brit. And if he’s not hot enough for ya, Just Blaze will be setting fire to the Panther Room. Get tickets HERE.
.) Phoenix @ Brooklyn Steel (Thursday, July 5th – Tuesday, July 10th) – Submerge yourself in the sounds of summer with a stop-off at Brooklyn Steel! Phoenix kicks off their residency tonight, with performances every day through next Tuesday! The infectiously poppy French house band is touring in support of their sixth studio album, Ti Amo which has been dazzlin’ listeners since last summer. You can’t deny, Phoenix has that certain “je ne sais quoi”. They are friends with Daft Punk. Lisztomania still sounds as good now as it did 10 years ago. As a festival band, they don’t come much better. Yep, we’re still feeling the love. Get tickets HERE.
.) The Cityfox Experience @ The Brooklyn Mirage (Saturday, July 7th) – The Cityfox Experience returns to their Bushwick base this Saturday for their second of three parties this summer. Two stages will bear some familiar faces at this day into night party when AndHim, H.O.S.H., Rodriguez Jr. (live), Steve Bug and more keep Cityfox’s legacy of bringing extraordinary underground talent to the hood. Get tickets HERE.
.) St. Lucia (DJ Set) @ Brooklyn Bowl (Saturday, July 7th) – One of our favorite South African synth-pop visionary is putting his instrument aside for an exclusive DJ set at Brooklyn Bowl. The lead singer of St. Lucia drilled his way into our heads back in 2013 with hit diddies like Elevate and Closer Than This. Five years later, Jean-Philip Grobler’s crystalline vocals and dreamy beats still have us wrapped up in a warm blanket of awesome. Let’s see how his signature style transfers to the decks. Get tickets HERE.
.) French Express Label Night @ Elsewhere (Saturday, July 7th) – It’s been a while since we’ve seen Chris Malinchak‘s name on a lineup, but his soundcloud reveals he’s been keeping busy otherwise. The NYC-based artist was given a boost of notoriety back in 2013 when his house track So Good to Me topped the charts. You’ll be hard pressed to find another artist so genuinely stoked to perform – honestly, just watching him boogie is half the fun. He’s one of the main draws at French Express’s label night, taking place at Elsewhere this Saturday. Perseus and Nuno share the bill. Get tickets HERE.
