Woohoo! It’s a short work week! I was really scratching my head on Monday as to why we’re still celebrating President’s Day. After all, the one we have in office now is a total ass clown and the ones who founded the country thought it was cool to own people. It might be time to rethink these national holidays. By all means let us stay home from work, but let’s take the day to commemorate something truly special – like the margherita slice or house music.
We don’t have a national holiday for EDM (yet) but perhaps that’s for the best, since now we can “observe” whenever we damn well please. And observe we shall, at this week’s Club Crush picks.
1.) Adam Beyer and Julia Govor @ Output (Friday, February 23rd) – Get ready for one sweaty, slammin’ night of music when Drumcode founder and radio host Adam Beyer joins Russian military singer turned disc slinger, Julia Govor at Brooklyn’s favorite nightclub. Having seen both play at countless international festivals, we know each artist can draw a huge crowd on their own. So this Friday, expect Output to be packed wall to wall with folks who love more than just a good beat. These are the techno diehards. Get tickets HERE.
2.) Maceo Plex @ Gotham Hall (Friday, February 23rd) – Maceo Plex maintains status as one of Spain’s most sought after producers. This Friday, TEKSUPPORT will bring the ELLUM label head’s many talents to a rather alternative venue (by techno standards, anyway). Instead of playing from atop of his famous Mayan Warrior art car, or within the dark walls of an industrial warehouse, the master musician will class things up a bit with an open to close set at Gotham Hall, a Neoclassical ballroom located in midtown New York, NY (1356 Broadway10018). Now I know this isn’t technically Brooklyn. However, Maceo Plex boasts a long history of trekking to our hood. This time we’ll return the favor. Get tickets HERE.
3.) Lane 8 @ Brooklyn Steel (Saturday, February 24th) – Bring your eyes, ears and open mind, but you just might want to leave your phone at home for this show. Following his hugely successful “This Never Happened Tour”, Denver-based house producer Daniel Goldstein is coming back to Brooklyn in support of his new album, Little by Little. Once again, he’s asking crowds to make memories without the help of their cell phones or cameras. It’s a noble effort that believe it or not, actually seems to work! Free yourself from digital distractions, and prepare to truly connect with the music, the fans and the groundbreaking artist that is Lane 8. This show is currently sold out. Get more details about the Little by Little tour HERE.
4.) Lakewood Warmup Sessions: Summer Camp @ House of Yes (Saturday, February 24th) – Scrounge up some marshmallows and don your shortest shorts because this Saturday our friends over at BangOn!NYC are bringing summer camp to life, all in preparation of their second annual Elements Lakewood Festival (returning to Lakewood, PA, May 25-28). This warmup party will feature artists from the Elements Lineup (The Golden Pony, Dirty Looks and Matt Sebastian) plus a few other notable names including Mr JPatt (The Knocks) and Lux Groove (Dirtybird). There are less than 50 pre-sale tickets available for what’s sure to be a nostalgic night out, so act quick. You can register for camp HERE.
5.) Clarian, Christian Voldstad and Carson @ The Panther Room (Saturday, February 24th) – Kompact and Bespoke Musik bring their best and brightest artists to Output’s intimate Panther room this Saturday night. Lose yourself in some truly unique house music that is beautiful, entrancing and 100 percent likely to keep your ass moving until last call. Get tickets HERE.
