Can you believe Hannukah is already under way, and Christmas is only a few short weeks away? I’ve been so busy I feel like I’ve barely even had a chance to acknowledge the Christmas season. If it weren’t for every Duane Reade in the city playing Mariah Carey’s All I Want For Christmas Is You on repeat, I may have missed the memo altogether.
Holidays in New York are good for many things – spending time with family and friends, excessive bouts of shopping and of course, parties. There are plenty of great shows on the roster as we ramp up toward New Year’s Eve (don’t worry, I’ll have a whole dedicated column for that). Your eyes are tired after scanning all of those Amazon wish lists. It’s time to put your ears to work. Go out and spread some cheer. This week’s Club Crush will keep you feeling merry all weekend long.
1.) Com Truise (DJ Set) @ Output (Thursday, December 14th) – Seth Haley, better known by his spoonerized stage name Com Truise, has a talent for mixing old and new. This year’s Iteration LP is as groovy as it is nostalgic. Just listen to Memory, a synth-laced, 80s-infused track that showcases his ability to re-popularize sounds that fell to the wayside decades ago. Does anyone else agree that this would sound right at home on the Stranger Things soundtrack? You won’t want to miss Com Truise when he sends MeanRed‘s Input party to the upside down. Get tickets HERE.
2.) Freedia Fest 4.0 featuring Big Freedia and DJ Tara @ Brooklyn Bowl (Friday, December 15th) – The queen diva is back! If you haven’t had a chance to get schooled by this twerk-tastic mama, then now is as good a time as ever. Expect a night full of New Orleans-style bounce, fast paced beats and some of the most impressive booty shaking to hit the circuit since, well, ever. This call and response show is highly interactive and hella fun. You’ll understand why her hit docu-series, Big Freedia Bounces Back, is still going strong after six seasons on the FUSE network. Get tickets HERE.
3.) Stacey Pullen w/ special guest Christian Smith @ Schimanski NYC (Saturday, December 16th) – Deck the halls with beats of techno, boom boom chica tat, bah boom boom *drop*. Trade in your mistletoe for something monochrome this Saturday when Stacey Pullen brings the spirit of Detroit to Schimanski’s main room. Tronic Radio host Christian Smith steps in to make a rare stateside appearance as a special guest. Get tickets HERE.
4.) BEDOUIN Presents SAGA @ Knockdown Center (Saturday, December 16th) – The SAGA continues when Brooklyn DJ duo BEDOUIN bring their Ibiza-style party to Ridgewood’s Knockdown Center this Saturday. Featuring elements formerly seen only at Spain’s HEART nightclub, BEDOUIN is thrilled to share some new tricks closer to home. Get tickets HERE.
5.) Holiday Disco with Dmitri From Paris @ House of Yes (Saturday, December 16th) – Trade in your mistletoe for disco balls as you prepare for night glimmering in silver and gold. House of Yes is taking the holidays back to the golden age of disco with this 70s era party featuring throwbacks and nu-grooves compliments of Dmitri From Paris. Dawn we now our gay apparel because ugly sweaters, glitzy fashions and light-up accessories are required to gain entry to this winter boogie wonderland. Get tickets HERE.
