Are you experiencing any of the following symptoms: fever, runny nose, cough, achey muscles, fatigue, etc.? Yeah, that’s what I thought. You and everyone else. It’s that time of year where we are forced to use those last sick days because we feel like actual garbage, and not just because the DVR backlog is overflowing. While I don’t recommend hitting the dance floor at the height of your illness, I suggest using the next couple of days to harness your energy. Pound some Emergen-c, oversleep, decompress, cough on your friends and by this weekend, your antibodies should be in fine shape. You’re going to want to be primed and ready to go because Brooklyn is POPPIN’ this week.
1.) Oliver @ Good Room BK (Thursday, September 28th) – Gramatik used to kick off his 2015 tour with a funky remix of a track called The Night Is On My Mind. I spent months searching for that song, to no avail. But things came Full Circle a few weeks ago when the LA-based house duo released a new full-length album, and voila, there is was! We’ve been in love with the unique sounds of Oliver since the first time we saw them play on Holy Ship. Now they’re bringing their dance worthy beats to Greenpoint’s infamously foggy dance floor this Thursday. The new album features collaborations with Chromeo, De La Soul, MNDR, Sam Sparro and many more. Peep the new album, and get tickets HERE.
2.) The Magician @ Output (Thursday, September 28th) – Stephen Fasano (better known by his stage name, The Magician) is the shit Heart was singing about all those years ago. The Belgium-based house producer returns for a rare US tour, following a highly successful summer residency at Output. I recommend leaving your white rabbit at home for this one, but prepare to have your mind blown all the same. Our friend Alex Raouf is opening, so get there early to soak up some dope techno before they draw the curtain. Get tickets HERE.
3. Cookie Monsta @ Schimanski NYC (Friday, September 29th) – When Webster Hall called it quits in August, we weren’t sure where’d have to go to get our bass fix. Lucky for us, Schimanski is making up for the void with a newly released schedule of dubstep and trap heavy Friday nights. Cookie Monsta headlines this week, with support from UM.., Bandlez and former WH residents, Alex English, Dali and Hiyawatha. There’s a happy ending to the ratchet tale after all. RSVP is free before midnight, or you can get tickets HERE.
4.) No Regular Play @ Baby’s All Right (Saturday, September 30th) – Our Brooklyn buddies bring their live house sounds to Baby’s All Right’s back-lit stage this Saturday. These boys of No Regular Play never fail to wow us with their smooth crescendos, tantalizing trumpet and one-of-a-kind approach to dance music. We have no doubt this intimate show will be one for the books. Maybe Woody Allen will show up. I mean he won’t, but that’d be cool. Get tickets HERE.
5.) Thievery Corporation @ The Ford Amphitheatre at Coney Island Boardwalk (Saturday, September 30th) – Thievery Corporation celebrated their 20th anniversary last year. With more than two decades of groundbreaking releases under their belt, they still show no signs of stopping. After headlining major festivals like Rothbury’s Electric Forest and Chalice Cannabis Festival in Southern California, legendary frontmen Rob Garza and Eric Hilton bring their “Ultimate Tour Experience” beachside this Saturday. Synthesizer mastermind Com Truise provides support. Get tickets HERE.
