It’s that time of year again! The Brooklyn Electronic Music Festival starts tonight, kicking off a four-day celebration of all things dance! For the 10-year milestone, BEMF has joined forced with Mixmag, Camp David and various local promoters to bring some of the scene’s most eclectic acts to our fair borough. Of course, part of what makes BEMF so special is their focus on showcasing local talent. Venues like Output, House of Yes, Good Room, Avant Gardner and others will play host to artists from around the globe. So do yourself a favor and get cultured – snag a pass and sample a few genres. Whether you’re a disco daddy, a techno snob, a bass head or non-conforming lover of electronic music, there’s something for you. We’ve handpicked some of our favorite shows for you. Check them out below!
.) E-missions Pizza Party with P.leone and friends @ Diviera Drive (Wednesday, October 3rd) – Who doesn’t love a good pizza party? BEMF knows what’s up, and that’s why they are kicking off the week’s festivities with that fly pizza pie, and beats from South Brooklyn native, P.leone whose funky tech house stylings are sure to make the night that much more delicious. Admission is on the house at Diviera Drive starting at 7 PM. Just fab! Get more info HERE.
.) Breakbot (DJ Set) @ Output (Thursday, October 4th) – Fans of French house will be thrilled to know the Ed Banger boys are in the house. Breakbot spins a very special DJ set with a little help from regular collaborator and vocalist, Irfane. Labelmate Busy P is also in tow to give the night that special je ne sais quoi. Get tickets HERE.
.) BEMF x FIXED presents: DJ Hell @ Good Room (Thursday, October 4th) – Electro clash originator and legendary genre bender DJ Hell heads the bill at FIXED‘s annual BEMF showcase. Italian progressive house producer Massimiliano Pagliara and local FIXED residents JDH and Dave P add a welcome blend of variety for what’s sure to be a bumping evening of otherwise rare appearances. Get tickets HERE.
.) Motor City Drum Ensemble & François K @ Avant Gardner (Friday, October 5th) – Whether you’re into disco or deep house, Friday night’s show at Avant Gardner is sure to be a legendary one. Founding father of Deep Space and Body & Soul, François K, is no stranger to New York. Having kicked off his career at iconic venues like Studio 54 and Paradise Garage, he’s a big part of dance music’s storied past in the Big Apple. Paired up with another true innovator, Motor City Drum Ensemble (don’t let the name fool you, it’s just one dude), this is sure to be one of the weekend’s grooviest offerings. Get tickets HERE.
.) Resolute Presents: Nina Kraviz and Mount Kimbie @ Avant Gardner (Saturday, October 6th) – Well this one should be weird – in a good way of course! The ambient trends and booming bass found in both Nina Kraviz‘s and Mount Kimbie‘s productions make this odd coupling stand out on the collectively curious BEMF lineup. While Nina’s roots are in techno and the Kimbie duo’s are more akin to dubstep, we see a lot of potential for satisfying synergy at Resolute‘s showcase. Get tickets HERE.
