Zachary Cale played “Go Folk Yourself Summer Fest” yesterday at Cooper Park in Brooklyn. Below is a video edit of his set’s second to last song titled “Day for Night”.
Last night The Men kicked off their tour with a chaotic and sweltering hot show at 538 Johnson in East Williamsburg. Standing on a flimsy guitar amp, pressed against the wall, yours truly got knocked around quite a bit. Somehow the general consensus seemed to be, that I’m the perfect launching pad for ‘stage dives’. […]
After all our complaints about wanting a movie theater in Williamsburg (in addition to IndieScreen) we can finally rejoice that not only has a theater opened that plays indie first run films, but also serves booze! Nighthawk Cinema officially opens this weekend with showings of Midnight in Paris, The Trip, and Submarine. Zagat has the […]
Police arrested two men attempting to climb the Williamsburg Bridge for a photo shoot reports the Daily News. Everybody loves the view from the bridge but James Stafford of Connecticut, and Brice Farrell of Maryland wanted to find that perfect spot for their snap shots. Around 3 a.m. NYPD Aviation Unit officers spotted the urban […]
Now that you know how to properly ride a bike without getting a ticket, disregard that and get naked. Okay, wear a helmet, and body paint if you’d like, and join the third annual 2011 World Naked Bike Ride NYC this Saturday. By the way, it’s legal to be topless in NYC! Lose those hot […]
In another bit of culture clash, members of Williamsburg’s Hasidic Jewish community are posting fliers around Southside reminding women not to show too much skin this summer. Following a decree from the Central Rabbinical Congress, known for enforcing strict dress codes, the Yiddish language signs instruct orthodox Jewish women to refrain from wearing tank tops, […]
This could prove useful, especially considering how the L train’s weekend “service” has seriously made us question the MTA’s sanity of late: the new East River Ferry, with three pickups in the Williamsburg/Greenpoint area (India St. in Greenpoint, N. 6th St. in N. Williamsburg, Schaefer Landing in S. Williamsburg) will be offering FREE ferry service […]
Sigh. It happened again. After City Councilwoman Diana Reyna stated that “‘hipsters’ may be part of the cause” for the New York City’s inaccurate census results, the media went wild, with L Magazine bringing up the tired “hipsters are too cool” argument, and Metro NY going as far as to accuse hipsters of costing NYC […]
She doesn’t want to change the world, she’s just looking for New England… …and she has made it as far as Williamsburg, Brooklyn, New York City where world famous editoress and bun-rock jet-set queen Haselore Kohl met up with Controlled Bleeding‘s Paul Lemos last night to ask him her infamous three questions…
There’s a new joint for all you heavy rockers in Greenpoint going by the name of St.Vitus Bar. It’s a pretty sweet spot. Dark as hell and run by people that know what they are doing. No asshole security either. Believe it or not, everybody is actually super nice and treats patrons in an accommodating […]
by Tim Hetherington, World Press Photo of the Year in 2007. Tim Hetherington, a former Williamsburg resident (in the photographer building off Kent, appropriately), was killed in Libya today. Hetherington was nominated for an Oscar for Restrepo, a documentary he helped film over a year with the Second Platoon in Afghanistan.
The 7th year anniversary of the Bikram Yoga Williamsburg is this Saturday, and as per usual, they are celebrating with a day of free yoga, massages, yoga tea and other treats. This year they are also celebrating their newly opened sister space, Jivan Yoga Center. They took over Zach Galifaknis old apartment (ha!) above the […]
