This One Goes to Eleven Presents: Moon Tooth, Vaureen, and more at Saint Vitus

New year, new you, new resolutions—like seeing more shows or broadening your musical horizons or just getting to Vitus once more time before, well, you know things go for independent venues in North Brooklyn these days. Are we on the right track? If so, FREEWilliamsburg and This One Goes to Eleven are psyched to announce […]

Output announces an end to their “epic journey”

Not all of us were fans, but the Williamsburg club will be hosting its last party on New Year’s Eve. The owners posted the news on Facebook citing “rapidly shifting social trends, unfavorable market conditions and weakening financial outlooks:” Dear OUTPUT community at-large, For our cherished home OUTPUT, it is that inevitable time of night […]

2018: The Year in Electronica

Fans of electronica had a lot to be happy about this year. Aphex Twin released new music (always good news), Lone released more great Ambivert Tools, Khan issued a double pack of old tapes (Traditions 08), and Autechre saw the official release of its epic NTS Sessions, available in 12-LP and 8-CD sets. There were […]

Club Crush: NYE’s Best Electronic Shows

To experience the holidays in New York is to experience something truly magical. The stresses of big city life start to fade and make way for sweeter things – ice skating with friends, hot cocoa in the park, holiday markets and, albeit brief, a break from the workplace hustle. Hopefully you’re feeling refreshed while reading […]

FREEwilliamsburg’s Top 25 Albums of 2018

FREEwilliamsburg’s Top 25 Albums of 2018

We’ve pretty much always had a “top album” list here at Freedubya, but we’ve essentially been doing a more detailed version of it for the past five. Five years. That’s a milestone! Something to reflect on, I suppose. It feels like this list gets weirder and weirder every year, as Williamsburg gets… well, more and more “normal,” via J Crews, Apple Stores and Chipotles. I’m not sure what that says about us? Probably that we’re increasingly contrarian? I’d like to think it’s that we’re more authentic. Such is the time-tested conundrum of the North Brooklyn resident. I guess you, the reader, will be the judge of that. Anyway – peep these albums. We liked ’em a whole lot.

This One Goes Eleven’s 2018 Metal Dundies

This One Goes Eleven’s 2018 Metal Dundies

I don’t want to get into a whole thing on year-end list culture. About how it’s either a group-think circle jerk or a navel-gazing troll job. About how it’s become more about personal taste than critical analysis. About how there’s too much to listen to and too many people just looking to validate their own […]

This One Goes to Eleven: Weekly metal roundup

OK, in all likelihood this will be the last one of these this year. There will be a TOGTE year-end list of some form—and also FREEWilliamsburg’s top albums which I’ll contribute blurbs to—but this is probably it for semi-poetic waxing on new releases and weekly ticket link dumping until the first week of January or […]
