Where to avoid St. Patrick’s day in Brooklyn

No thanks

Do you want to leave your house tonight but also feel pretty passionate about avoiding a run-in with NYC’s drunkest? Ya know, the green-adorned pub-goers who just can’t seem to leave their college days behind? They’re decorated with cheap plastic shamrock beads and leprechaun hats—perhaps a day as awful as Santacon in terms of public displays of intoxication and douchiness [Read more…]

Mezcaleria La Milagrosa – a Williamsburg speakeasy hidden behind a Mexican deli’s freezer

mezcaleria-la-milagrosa

The hidden bar is in the back of a bodega on Havemeyer Street. It’s owned by the same people behind the fantastic Mexican joint, La Superior. If you can get in, they serve five types of Margaritas: regular, mezcal, Jamaica, guava and tamarind. The Observer, which is no longer owned by Complicit Kushner, has more:

Mezcaleria La Milagrosa is a new concept locale from Felipe Mendez, the chef and owner of Williamsburg’s La Superior and Cerveceria Havemeyer, which is located just next door. Unlike Mendez’s other restaurants, this mezcal bar is exceedingly difficult to find for those who don’t know about it—and there’s a disco ball. [Read more…]

So glad we got to spring forward into this glorious weather we’ve been having. If you want to avoid all the St Patrick’s Day nonsense (why people think this is any better than Santacon I don’t know…), here are a few chances to avoid people pretending to be Irish, leprachauns, or generally broing out.

Brooklyn Flea returning to Williamsburg in April

brooklyn-flea

Sure, we’re about to be blanketed in two feet of snow by Stella, the ominous Nor’easter that’s approaching. But be that as it may, Spring is just around the corner. Starting April 1, Brooklyn Flea will be happening on Saturdays in Williamsburg. We sadly said goodbye to the Sunday Flea in 2015, so we’re happy to see them return. Sorry Fort Greene:

The original, Brooklyn Flea, has just announced that it’s folding up its Fort Greene market– yes, the one that started it all– and moving it to Williamsburg. The Saturday Flea, which has been in Fort Greene for nine years, will now take place alongside Saturday Smorgasburg in East River State Park. [Read more…]

Nights & Weekends; credit The Infatuation

We told you that Nights & Weekends recently closed. We were, of course, seriously bummed since it was one of the best places in Greenpoint to have a cocktail and snack. Thankfully, the same owner is opening a new cafe in the same location at 1 Bedford Ave:

Alexandra Siwiec is transforming her old flatiron-shaped spot, Nights and Weekends, into a round-the-clock cafe and restaurant.

We’re told One Bedford should soft-open by next weekend, and will feature Colombian coffee from Williamsburg’s Devocion by day and Old World wines, aperitifs, “mid-century classic cocktails,” spiked coffee, and frozen punches by night. [Read more…]
