Mast Brothers has company:
Cacao Market, which opens in Greenpoint (across the street from Beacon’s Closet) today, seems modeled after Juliette Binoche’s sweet little chocolatiere in Chocolat… That all might seem a little precious, but it works, perhaps because the chocolate is so damn good. Cacao Market is the Brooklyn baby of Mariebelle Chocolates, an NYC-based company with a boutique in SoHo and outposts in Japan. Proprietor Maribel Lieberman crafts beautiful, tasty sweets made from cacao, inspired by the chocolate from her native Honduras. Highlights include the nut-studded chocolate bark, Japanese matcha truffles, and the Saucisson au Chocolat, a sausage-esque link made of dark chocolate, nuts, pretzels, and other sweet goodies. In addition to chocolate, the shop serves gelato and sorbet (go for the lychee sorbet!), hot chocolate, eclairs, and pastries. Savory bites like crepe-wrapped duck and onion and leek quiche are also available in the shop’s cafe.
