Brooklyn protest and benefit shows to dull that post-inauguration grief

Retire those cardboard signs for a night or two and lend your local (and non-local) musicians an ear! Besides, your arms deserve a break, don’t they? So do your nerves. The good news is you can still unwind without sacrificing that fighting spirit. Round up your Muslim, women, LGBTQ, and fundamental -rights-supporting friends and head to one of the many upcoming anti-Trump, pro-Planned Parenthood, pro-ACLU, pro-immigrant benefit shows happening this month in Brooklyn.

February 2nd
We Support Planned Parenthood (The Graham, $20 suggested)

Join Jacuzzi Jefferson, David Kiss, AKKI, Sophia MA, Will OB, A-A-RON, and Alex Rose in fighting for the uteruses! All bar proceeds and door donations ($20 suggested) from this show will graciously be donated to Planned Parenthood. Keep an eye open for their show the following week which will benefit the ACLU. February 3rd
Woods (ACLU + Planned Parenthood Benefit Show) (Sunnyvale, $25)

Brooklyn psychedelic folk favorites Woods and DJ Cochon de Lait will be holding it down at Sunnyvale to benefit both the ACLU and Planned Parenthood (all proceeds will go to both kickass organizations). (More info)

February 3rd

Stand up against racism and islamophobia with Jeff Rosenstock, Ben Hopkins (of PWR BTTM), Cameron Boucher (of Sorority Noise & Old Gray), eskimeaux & more! The show will benefit CAIR-New York and raise a middle finger to Trump and his cabinet of racists. (More info)

A PPNYC Action Fund Benefit (Silent Barn, $8-20)

Another excellent showcase benefitting Planned Parenthood (featuring a speaker from Planned Parenthood of New York City Action Fund) with performances by Emily Reo, Algebra II, Rhea and DJ Molly Soda. There will also be readings (curated by The Le Sigh) with Darcie Wilder, Gabriela Tully Claymore, and Emily Thompson. Don’t forget to grab a donation-based haircut (yep, they’re doing that!) No Enemies to the Left: An ACLU Benefit Show (Brooklyn Bazaar, $25)

Continue to show your support to the ACLU! This night of comedy and music features Wet, Alex Cameron, and Free The Mind, DJ sets by Emily Panic, KittyCash, and Bec Adams, and stand up from Jo Firestone, Sharron Paul, Cocoon Central Dance Team, and Sam Taggart. (More Info)

What’s better than a dance party? How about one that doubles as a fundraiser for those fighting for the fundamental rights of us and others? Hell yeah. You can catch Carlos Sanchez, Sal Paradise, & Matty Matt spinning all night. (More info)

February 8th

This event is working in tandem with the show at Saint Vitus (below) which is located half a block away. Get tattooed for a cause (you’ll be able to pick your new ink from their flash sheet art) by the talented crew from Magic Cobra Tattoo Society featuring artists Woodz, Ol’ Ash, Kati Vaughn, Adam Korothy. There will also be live performances by Panama Papers and Mic Raygun. (More info)

February 8th
Party to Protect Your Parts

More than just your average gig at Saint Vitus, all proceeds will go to Planned Parenthood NYC Votes! After getting that fresh ink over at Magick City, catch the music of Netherlands, The Giraffes, Ice Balloons, Strange Names, and Debbie Downer with performances by the lovely Bunny Buxom, Anja Keister, and Celia Foxglove. Valentine’s Day VILLAGE OF LOVE Planned Parenthood of NYC Benefit Concert & Dance (Music Hall of Williamsburg, $20-$25)

This jam-packed Valentine’s day show features favorites like Reigning Sound, Cult of Youth, Kid Congo, Skaters, Delicate Steve, Eleanor Friedberger, Austin Brown (Parquet Courts), Cassie Ramone (Vivian Girls), Alana Amram, Frankie Rose, & more! February 16th
Dames Who Give Damns: A Night of Punk, Party, and Protest (Bar Matchless, $10)

An evening with female-centric musicians and artists at Bar Matchless where you can continue to fight the good fight (even if it doesn’t directly relate to the slow crumbling of our government). All proceeds will go to the N. Brooklyn Coalition Against Family Violence. Featured acts include Yucky Duster , The Shook Ones, London Plane, and FlirtClub with DJ Heavyflow and DJ PocketShark. Don’t forget to check out the artwork on display and for sale by local artists including Ella Desmond, Eforeffort, Natalia Zamora / Denimindenial and many more. (More info)

…and of course, don’t forget to log onto Bandcamp Friday, February 3rd (starting at 12:01am Pacific Time). They will be donating 100% of their share of proceeds from sales on the site to the ACLU in support of Immigrants/ basic human values. (More Info)
